I would not assume the side Mozeliak shows the media and fans to be the one he shows free agents.
The Mo you see in scrums talking trade deadline moves is not the same Mo you see in his office.
That's the same for any of us.
Part of the reason Mozeliak's comments about Dexter Fowler's effort blew up last season was because they were close and had a good relationship. That relationship had to be repaired a bit after that flap. But I can tell you from seeing Mo interact with Fowler, Carpenter, Wainwright and others that he does not have a hard time relating to players.
As for selling, you might be on to something.
The Cardinals are keen on selling their history and tradition, but to a 26-year-old free agent, that history and tradition are seeming a bit ... dusty.
I've said this before but I'll do it again. People will say I'm crazy, but hear me out. The Cardinals should poach the director of recruiting at Alabama football or another blue-blood college football program that dedicates a ton of time and resources to selling teenagers on their program. The pitch would need to be re-shaped to become Cardinals-specific and appealing to older, professional players, but I think it would help the Cardinals to get an outside voice on how to sell what they have to offer.
