TV stations get in any trouble for the Fbombs and the hand gesture that Blues players and Larry Robinson did in front of the cameras?

Do you think all star games are a relic of the past? They make more sense in an era without SportsCenter highlights and twitter.

Will Goldy go on tear in the 2nd half?
by SLH16 6/18/2019 6:26:02 PM
It has been implied Cardinals could stomach parting with Fowler with one year left on K, do you sense there is an inflection point for this year - there are so many inexpensive upgrades (e.g. Cameron Maybin) becoming available

Happy Tuesday BenFred. Thanks for the chat.
Do the Blues sign Binner the Cup Winner to a long term deal or go to arbitration to see if he is for real? If it’s my money I would want to see if he is as good as we saw in 2019.

I like the narrative that Wong's offense isn't so bad because he's in the top 10 at his position of OPS. He's 8th out of 12 qualifying players. There are 3 players Brian Dozier Ryan McMahon and Howie Kendrick that just miss being qualified that would knock him out of the top 10.

Whenever the conversation turns to Fowler, the answer that we consistently get from every P/D scribe is that the Cardinals are (or might be) unwilling to eat the amount remaining on his contract. I don’t understand this. If they were to cut Fowler and bring up someone like O’Neill or Carlson, the only extra cost would be the difference between the major league minimum and what the callup would have been paid in the minors, an amount that is a rounding error on their income statement. They do understand that, don’t they? Is that extra $400,000 or so the real problem? Or do they think they don’t have anybody in the minors who could do better than Fowler? Or is it just an unwillingness to admit a mistake?

I loved Jose Oquendo’s statement last week. Jose has always seemed like a loyal soldier to me, and it’s is hard for Nebraska to see him saying that without being encouraged by the organization. Do you think he was acting on husband own, or disbelief he at least clear it with higher-ups first?
by George M.6/18/2019 7:06:13 PM
What did you think of Machado getting only 1 game suspension for bumping umpire after aggressively arguing? The umpire's union is not happy.

Larry Robinson raised the bird to Boston on stage Saturday. On network tv.

I guess I still don’t understand the “financial hit” involved if they DFA Fowler. They will pay him the same amount if he is on the 25-man roster or if they cut him. The only extra cost is for his replacement, who is being paid a minor league salary now and would be paid the major league minimum if brought up to replace a departed Fowler. That difference doesn’t seem like a substantial “hit”. What am I missing here? In fact, if somebody else picks up Fowler, that team would pay him the major league minimum, and the Cardinals’ obligation would be reduced by that amount, so there would be no extra cost at all. Where does this big financial “hit” (over what they have to pay to keep him) come from?

Two things: This summer do you think it reasonable to expect the Cards to bring in a starter and reliever from outside the organization? Do you expect them to make an offer to Ozuna to re-sign him?
by Pam6/18/2019 7:21:15 PM
Nothing in the chat about Molina's .669 OPS? We're just gonna let that go without any accountability?
by David6/18/2019 7:23:22 PM
No player or fan was embarrassing Wed, Thurs, Fri or Saturday. Everyone was celebrating and it was a long time coming for the former players, current players, management and fans. Everyone had fun. I think everyone who had issues with players behaviors need to back off for what happened during the festivities and let it be!

Why is Wacha still getting starts?
by wordsonthebat6/18/2019 7:27:55 PM
My rationalization that Fowler’s production would be improved upon by a player making the major league minimum was based on the team’s public evaluation of their prospects, which has been quite high. Apparently they have another evaluation which they keep closer to their chest. Thanks for clarifying this.
by George M.6/18/2019 7:29:21 PM
Ya cuz Molina was crushing the ball before getting hurt?
by David6/18/2019 7:37:26 PM
Let me rephrase my Oquendo question. Jose does not seem like the kind of guy who would say that to the press unless he had already said it to Shildt. Shildt might have said “Yeah, I’ve been kicking their rears, but they shrug it off”, in which case Jose makes the comment to the press. Shildt might have said “I disagree, they don’t need a kick in the rear”, in which case Jose goes to the press. But Jose seems like the kind of guy who would say it to Shildt first. Would he really sandbag Shildt like that?
by George M.6/18/2019 7:38:05 PM
Smartest thing Jose Oquendo ever did for his reputation was to never become the Cardinals manager. He's treated like a genius around here, without ever actually doing a thing. Meanwhile, half the city is convince Tony LaRussa is a moron ...

Did you notice both the NHL and NBA finals was dominated by the road team? Do you think this is just a fluke?

Armstrong was burying a two-hander during his stage interview on Saturday. Seems like such a contrast to Mo's bowties. Is the Blues franchise more relatable or am I a prisoner of this long coming moment?
by Tackleberry6/18/2019 7:44:29 PM
2019 is the year of the "break through" teams. UVA couldn't ever get going in the NCAA's despite being a great regular season team these past 3-4 years. Raptors were owned by Cleveland in the playoffs for years but they made a bold trade to light a fire under their team. And now the Blues... well we all know that story. Who's next? Is this Harbaugh's year in Ann Arbor?
by Tackleberry6/18/2019 7:49:43 PM
Is the call up of Rangel Ravelo a cup of coffee merely to reward him for his outstanding play down on the farm and off he goes?
by nick n6/18/2019 7:51:02 PM
I think if O'Neill got the same amount of consistent at-bats that Fowler has received that he would out-produce Fowler. In 142 PAs last year, O'Neill's WAR was 1.3. Fowler had a -1.4 last year and it's taken him 100 more PAs to match the aforementioned WAR of O'Neill. Not saying O'Neill is knocking the door down, but it goes to show that it might be prudent to give somebody/anybody else a chance, especially if they have the ability to produce damage.
by troothcheez6/18/2019 7:51:57 PM
So if Molina is compromised and it's leading to performance worse than he was, which was bad, why is he still playing? Are we just supposed to imagine how bad the rotation would be without him catching everyday?
by David6/18/2019 7:52:46 PM
Convince me that the Blues aren't this year's answer to the Washington Capitals -- a long-time also ran that finally won the Cup, then bowed out in the second round of the playoffs the very next year.
by Alex6/18/2019 7:55:49 PM
Fowler has been worth 1.4 WAR so far. He has an OPS+ of 104 and a .355 OBP. He has hardly been worthless George.

OK Ben, You're me for a day.
What deals do you look to make to improve the team? Specifically, who do you target, and what are you willing to part with to make said deals?
Let's hear it.
by POBOMO6/18/2019 8:01:11 PM
The more Reyes struggles, do you think it becomes more or less likely that he becomes involved in a trade for an established SP? His trade value is certainly lower, but at what point does the club either see what they can get out of him on the mound or see what they can get FOR him?
by Homer6/18/2019 8:03:20 PM
The Blues seem more relatable to the fans because the the front office, the coaching staff, and the players all seemed to want to win as badly as the fans did. There was a palpable level of striving that is missing with the Cardinals- an urgency that they seem unable, or unwilling to match. It's the same general message Oquendo was trying to convey. Many Cardinals fans have never been overly impressed with the Washington Nationals franchise. They carry themselves like they have really won something, but have actually not accomplished a lot. Are we the new Nationals?
