GREAT question. The reality is this -- Wacha looks amazing right now. That change-up is '13-ish. There's no way he's not starting games. So if Alex was healthy, then they'd likely have him be a hybrid sixth starter/long relief ... but Wacha is, to me, the story of camp.
Ha that's my girlfriend. One of our first dates was to the St. Louis Symphony, and like that Seinfeld episode, she brought a PEZ dispenser.
John "Don't Call Me Ron" Gant has also looked extremely sharp, and similar to Martinez from the offensive end, he's pitching himself onto the roster. Mo made a casual reference the other day to STL maybe having just 11 pitchers, but I seriously doubt they go that route, meaning they'll have 12 or 13. Gant has a 1.13 ERA in eight innings and, check this out, hasn't walked a batter yet (with six Ks.)
Yep he's here. He's got a 3.00 ERA in six appearences. Picked up the win ("win"), though he only went one inning a did allow a run and three hits. He's also become quite a fixture on the ping-pong table I wrote about the other day. He's not Gyorko though -- that guy is Forrest Gump.
Oh, this is a fun question. OK, I think Austin Gomber will have a chance for the pitching award, and, man, I'm high on Mags Sierra, who's defense and speed is MLB ready right now, but my guy Paul DeJong will likely win it -- I can see him being a huge WRC+ guy for your Memphis Redbirds.
I'm more like Bubba or Lieutenant Dan
Ha! I hear ya. You're like "that's OUR beer!" But business is business.
DAY GAME. Though, if you go to the night game, sit on the first-base side to see the sunset. Recently, the Rockies got rid of like 3,000 Uecker seats and instead built an upper-deck bar area. It's my favorite bar in Denver. You'll love that park.
But beware of the Mascot, Dinger, the worst Mascot in SPORTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
That would be huge. As I've written about this spring, the Cards can't just sweep that corner position under the rug like they did with first base in 2015, because the pitching probably won't be as magical as the '15 staff. I have Jhonny fatigue, as I've mentioned in our weekly chats before, so I'm more of a show-me-and-then-I'll-jump-on-board guy. But, admittedly, he's had some good swings in spring, and has shown some defense. But let's talk in June.
I agree, and am working on a column about that very topic. The Cards have a groundball staff. Kolten is a key defender, a play-maker. He brings the athleticism and defense. But will MM be able to resist benching him for chunks of time, if both Jhonny and Jedd are hitting?
A fair Q, but I spoke to Wacha yesterday, and he seems pretty happy with their plan of action... He'll start a few more times and should be ready to go.
Never been to the LLWS, but I definitely definitely wanna go in August. I'm sure the players aren't excited about the game, but it'll be a cool scene, a la Winter Classic.
Easy now, I'm the only one allowed to make bad puns around here.
I see Randal and Jhonny in an arm-wrestling epic battle, a la the movie "Over The Top."
OK, I've gotta take care of some work here... Always fun doing out weekly chat, and I'll see you again next week!!! And if you don't, please give me a follow on Friendster and Twitter, www.twitter.com/hochman
