He turns 35 in September, his contract's up after this season, I think this season could be it.
I'm thinking fourth-line center to begin with. I think if he moves up, it will still be as a center.
You make a good point. I do think the fact that the Cardinals have been around for a century helps _ all that tradition. But what if the malaise of the '70s with the franchise was still going on? What if the Rams had been to the playoffs 13 times and made the Super Bowl four times between 1996 and 2015 ( a period in which the Cardinals made the playoffs 13 times and played in 4 World Series)? We might be talking about St. Louis as a football town and the Rams would still be here.
Don't know if there's more behind the scenes. There's a lot of travel involved with covering hockey, and I think maybe he just wanted to slow down the pace and spend more time at home. I don't know if there's anything more sinister to it than that.
He plays good defense and isn't afraid to hit people. I think he could be an effective fourth-line wing.
Would follow the Rams more closely if I wasn't covering hockey. Still try to catch a Rams game or read about them when I can, but when you cover a beat it's pretty all-encompassing. When I'm working at home, I used to have the NFL network on in the background in my office, kind of like wallpaper. Now it's the NHL network. I have nothing against the Rams' players, particularly the remaining ones from the St. Louis days. But after covering all those lousy Rams teams during their final decade in StL, got to admit it was tough to see the Rams in the playoffs last year. JR is a good friend, we've known each other for a long time, and was very helpful to me last year. But over the years when he was at the P-D, we didn't really see that much of each other. He was busy with the Blues and I was busy with the Rams..
The Blues are optimistic they will get the all-star game in the very near future, in large part because of all the renovations. I think it could happen as early as 2020.
Don't know. But in a sport where gate receipts are a lot more important to the bottom line, missing the playoffs didn't help.
I believe team policy is to have all practices open to the public. I'm sure the preseason schedule will be announced in the next couple off weeks.
I hear you on your fourth-line scenario. But I don't think Kostin's on the roster, at least not to start the season. And you also have to factor in that younger players need playing time _ they may be better suited development-wise to logging heavy minutes in the minors over limited time in the NHL.
Yep. Of course, I still have his number but I think the last time I talked to him was at the Warner Hall of Fame induction in Canton in August of 2017. I'll try to pass along your message next time.
OK, that's it for the maiden voyage. Very impressed with the turnout today. I'll try to get quicker on the answers in the future. Sorry I didn't get to all the questions _ I have to leave for Enterprise Center _ but please try again next Wednesday, when our start time should be 1 p.m. Thanks for playing. . . .
