I'd be legitimately shocked if Mike Matheny isn't managing the Cardinals next season. I'd expect his staff to look different though -- if this season finishes where it seems to be headed.
If you're going to rip trades, Jedd Gyorko's not the one.
Talk about low hanging fruit ...
I was just having the Aledmys Diaz discussion with online editor Mike Smith. He's not exactly crushing it in Memphis. Slashing .250/.299/.389. I'd like to see Patrick Wisdom, who has 29 bombs and counting.
The uniform revolution will not slow down. It cannot be stopped. You don't have to like it, but it won't change. Same thing happened in college football. There's money to be made. And the players like it.
I hate to think that. Kid was an All-Star last year. But yes, his decline really is strange. I'm not ready to write him off yet.
I'm not slapping a keeper tag on any outfielder for 2018. It's where the depth is. It's where the deals have to be made from.
It's a cult-like obsession. I was introduced in Knoxville, Tennessee. They're everywhere. Points make for good vacations. Not sure how they captured the sports writing market, but I do know there was a big freakout when they started pulling desks out of rooms, and I think the sportswriters convinced them to re-introduce some.
I hope so. I don't know, though. See earlier thoughts on the outfield.
Oh, I know a decline can happen. And it has happened. I'm just saying I'm not ready to close the book on Aledmys. Thanks for stopping by, Pete.
No, you're right. And fitting that the DeJong question comes after a Diaz one. Crazy how fast things can change. Folks were really high on DeJong's power potential, but no one expected this, not this soon. How could they? What's really impressed me about PJ is the defense. We saw how quickly Diaz became a liability when his bat skipped a beat. His defense was not good enough to justify his presence. DeJong's been smooth at short. That shouldn't go overlooked.
It can be a good thing, no matter the realm. Refreshes voices in the room. Challenges the thought process instead of more of the same. And yeah, it sends a message and perhaps creates some discomfort. That can be a good thing, too.
Sixteen. Tied for 19th-most in baseball. But get this. The Cardinals' bullpen has a record of 15-25. That's the second-worst bullpen winning percentage. Their .375 is only better than the Phillies' .362.
BRB. Looking for my tin foil hat.
I agree. I would think long and hard about bringing back Lance. He's had the surgery, and responded well. He might be even stronger next season. Plus he has that snarl that this team needs, that it lacked when he was gone. Don't forget about Flaherty, though. He could be a factor.
Pretty good -- for Leake lately. Sorry. Should have clarified.
