Goodness. I barely even made a dent in the inbox here, and we're going on about five hours of chatting. The wife has said I need to wrap it up. Seriously. I'm not kidding. And I've got to catch up on some phone calls. The Cardinals are not calling it a day with Rosscup. It's clear they have ongoing dialogue with Arizona about the pitchers there. They have wanted to engage with Cleveland about some of the pitchers they have there -- we didn't even talk about Hand, for example. And there, of course, other teams they've been in contact with. Miami for example. So, tomorrow will be busy.
Does the ask for Ray drop as a deadline nears? Does the Cardinals willingness to overpay for a starter intensify once they make another move or a starter comes off the board? Or do they hold fast?
They're going to aim and try for a deal. No guarantees they pull it off.
We'll talk about it all week, for sure. And the chat will return next Monday. I'll be at Dodger Stadium, ready to cover the Cardinals final series in this stretch against some of the best in baseball. They'll get a chance to determine whether they belong in that conversation. If 2019 matters, then the trade deadline matters, too.
Enjoy the frenzy.
