I disagree. Bo Jackson would like to have a word with you.
It's all the same. Trust me. One means more travel. The other means more phone calls. Cardinals Nation is always hungry for content.
That is what the team wants to see more of, as discussed earlier in the chat.
Exactly like it was with the Bucs, Cubs, and Cardinals a few years ago, yep.
Any lineup that doesn't start with Carpenter at leadoff is unlikely to come out of Matheny's pen.
Explain that to Bob Gibson when he comes for you with his opinion on that idea.
They were all told by the Cardinals want to expect, and Matheny reached out to the manager of the team to let them know. Rosenthal was disappointed, yes. Martinez was rather emotional with the whole event because he felt like he was there to share it with the late Oscar Taveras.
Have not. It seemed like that pre-All-Star break was the time. But there were changes in the front office, there was a downturn for the team. Not sure if those are all connected. Just didn't hear about any of the planned talks. August would offer another opportunity (or right now would, if they're quiet).
Usually do that at the end of the season.
That's the expectation, yes.
You were alone in that. This year it does not count.
A fair point. But small market teams could do the same thing, right? The Tampa Bay Rays could have signed David Price to a deal knowing they would just walk away from it at the first sign of an injury or a drop in velocity or whatever.
I have a hard time with this one. The game does go on without you, and if you have some sort of blanket statement on this then Lou Gehrig sits, right? Then Aledmys Diaz doesn't become an All-Star last year. Then Albert Pujols doesn't happen. It cannot be that cut and dry. As long as there are games to be played there are roles to be won, and yes that sometimes comes at the cost of a player who was injured.
Josh Donaldson sings out as a possibility, that has been reported on here often. The other batters with the Marlins are of interest, Ozuna and Yelich. It is not yet clear if Hosmer or Moustakas would be available, and I honestly get conflicting views on the level of the Cardinals interest -- or, let's say, perceived interest because the Cardinals aren't revealing how they feel. If the Cardinals veer toward a rental, there's going to be the obvious match with Martinez, but don't dismiss Jay Bruce. The Mets would move him. Cardinals have had a fondness for him in the past.
It's a fair topic. Luke Voit's performance was a big part of that. Commitments to Grichuk and Piscotty are a part of it. Tommy Pham's play is a big part of that.
It is not the bullpen. It is the top of the order. Not at all what the Cardinals imagined. Not at all what their career performance suggested. Not at all what the team needed.
