It's a good way to start when you think about building a team, but if it's your be-all, end-all, then you're going to end all real quick because there's only so much typecasting talent available.
Another example. Like the Astros. Wonder if those teams are doing OK?
Yes. It's been asked. Fowler says he's here to be the CF. Matheny says Sierra's cameo appearance means it's important to keep guys in positions where they're comfortable for the everyday players so that they're not jarred about. In other words: squatter's rights.
Any of the players who are injured can now go on the 60-day. once the 40-man is full, and it is. So that would clear a spot for Duke. He had the back-to-back to prove. That's the next step for him.
"The Captain Class" is the one making the rounds now. Sam Walker is excellent, and I'm going to plunge into this book this week. (Packed a couple of paperbacks for the road trip, not hardbacks. Finished one. Halfway through a fascinating book about Hemingway as we approach his birthday next week, which just might be the best ever date to have a birthday on, just saying.)
"Super-Crunchers" was another book I read at the recommendation of a Cardinals' exec. That was several years ago. And "Talent is Overrated" was passed around the office at one point.
A rusty nail might be welcome in the clubhouse. Shake things up a bit. Bring a little chaos.
It was under consideration at last check. Not sure how aggressive they would be.
Donaldson's contract ends at the time those two become free agent, if you're lining them up.
As columnist Benjamin Hochman will tell you that I very rarely laugh out loud. He was there the last real laugh out loud moment I had. Might have been in 2015, in Denver. He can tell you all about it sometime. It's kind of an awful story because the thing that made me laugh out loud was a joke that I made and the reactions people had to it.
I really rather a dull, sub-replacement-level raconteur despite what these chats lead you to believe.
I think every team in baseball will at least give the cost a check. They would be negligent in their duties as GM/President to not at least engage in conversation with Harper's agent about whether he wants to be a Cardinal and what that would cost to make happen.
Developing. Intrigued by the awakening of the bat to go with one of the outfield gloves they've always liked.
Because Mike Matheny says that is where the pitcher will hit under his watch. His view.
Would be surprised if they moved Flaherty. That's the main one. Maybe Hicks. Hicks would be a surprise, somewhat.
Cardinals are not trading Carlos Martinez. That was ... a spot of whimsy. More of a dig at wasting an ace-level pitcher for a team that The New York Post believes isn't a serious contender for the next several years.
Ask Benjamin Hochman. It's his story to tell, if he wants.
Fairly important. Cardinals like that stat. Believe it's a hint to power that will manifest.
This is true. Jaime Garcia pitched them there. Matt Adams slugged them there. Go figure.
Well, he can't rightly see himself play, so there's that.
That is unlikely unless there's one winner and everyone else is second. That's just silly.
That is always what teams do. Look at Washington. It's what they've done all season. Look to the north, no, the up up north and the first-place team that has done that as well. It's what baseball teams do annually with the bullpen. Cardinals did in 2011 and won, did in 2006 and won, and did in 2008 and lost. Go figure.
