I don't get that sense. The Dodgers are really geared toward metrics, and they're doing well, so maybe it's the metrics. Regardless, the Cardinals do focus on the hitter's strength and how that aligns with the pitcher's approach, and that's part of the scouting report. They also stress stress pitch selection, and that approach is being coached if not always executed.
Sure. You could take it that way. My point: They're in the lead. The other teams need help. Earlier in the chat I outlined how the Cardinals could lose all seven games to the Cubs and still win. That would be problematic, of course. But that's the control of destiny I mean. Win and they're in. Win and they're division champs. That's it. They're the only one of the three who can say that for certain. Only them and Cubs can really say, as you suggest, that if they win out they're division champs. You are right in that regard.
Not much runway for change, no.
That was not part of any of the explanations, no. All indications are from the explanations I heard and what followed after the game and into today is that Fowler called the ball. Bader also called the ball. The sense is that's Fowler's ball. He said he backed off when he heard Bader also call the ball -- and that was late, yes. What you describe actually gives credence to the notion that the CF is the one who has to take that look you talk about and then yielding. Sometimes being the point guard in the outfield is knowing when someone else should take the shot. Obviously Bader was frustrated by it. I did not expect this to be the topic du jour in the chat.
We are seeing different crowds, George. The ballpark was packed this past weekend. Maybe you want to credit the giveaways. Whatever.
No clue. We can be surprised together. Matt Carpenter?
Adjust to the off-speed already. It's easier said than done. They see how teams are approaching them, and they're aiming for the discipline to draw those pitches back into the strike zone.
Baseball can afford it. And then they can sell it. And some pitchers are persnickety, and all hitters want that pitcher to have command of that ball and not deal with scuffs.
No. That is not in the plans. An injury would have to happen.
Yes, a series of them. Similar to 2013 when there was a time when it appeared that Oscar Taveras would return to the team in the postseason and be a part of the outfield because of an injury. That was discussed. But it didn't happen.
No. That is frowned upon by my employer.
The worst offenders were never in the chat -- or never saw the light of day in the chat. There are some folks who should apologize to him, but even if he was hitting .100 and rarely playing they should apologize. Some of what was said -- what has been said -- is vulgar and terrible.
No. By definition, no. Not even remotely. Not at all.
Is Matt Alberts still with the Nationals? The Cardinals have, oddly, done well against Scherzer -- in D.C. They do OK against him. Corbin is going to bend them silly with the slider. So what for that to happen. This is a tough draw for the Cardinals.
He will come to camp as a starter with a chance to compete. There are other moves the Cardinals must make this winter to address the rotation. Carlos Martinez will be in the conversation and prepped for that role unless they decide to trade him. So you're looking at four there -- however it goes.
The Cardinals have a two-game lead with 13 to play and they have their rival on their schedule to dispatch with them head to head. They are in first place and should be expected to stay in first place even if Christian Yelich was healthy and the Cubs had their full complement of players. That's the bar the Cardinals set: The win the division. Judge them by that. The Cardinals are in position to win the division -- and there's no reason, none, that they should be expected to do so or they failed.
Second base. And before you get too far here: It's taken.
OK. That's kind of funny. Would be interesting.
My understanding after reading the rule and asking around here is that it's up the umpire's interpretation. There are times when this is done to change signs real quick and avoid the cross-over that can cause problems and injuries. The umpire is going to want that meeting to take place and likely understand that it's quick and does not count as a visit.
