Only Disney Springs. The LEGO store, of course. Did not get to a park.
That is about the same range that I detailed in a previous chat, a few weeks ago. The question is how much of that is new money and what they do for 2017 in there. That's all. Otherwise, it's right on mark with the description given chatters before.
Jose Bautista turned out OK.
Set Rosenthal's over/under for starts this season at 9 1/2. And, yes, the chats will continue into the regular season. A special treat in the coming weeks as Rick Hummel will host the chat. He'll be doing the chat between the opener and game 2 of the first series. That's set for Monday. I'll be scribing that day. He'll be chatting. We'll continue on like that through the season and into the offseason. There will be a weekly Cardinals chat. The only question is the host. Hummel has got the chat fever.
Nope. It was an honest answer. Those are always welcome.
There's no need to duck. The metrics and the eyeballs and the trophies back what you suggest. Those close to Molina have told me repeatedly this winter how he was driven by this. He wants to reclaim the Gold Glove and be an All-Star and that the slips you saw were ones that he has used as motivation to get back to the level, defensively, he played at routinely. Look at the World Baseball Classic. The other day here in spring training he picked a fastball that skipped in the dirt ahead of the plate and in one motion threw out a runner at second by a stride. It wasn't close. The pitch shouldn't have been caught, let alone turned into an out at second. He internalized last year, and he is, according to people who know him well or teammates who have watched him, out to disprove the trend.
Assuming health? The Cardinals'.
Seems like a good place to end. Some of the remaining questions involve ... goodness, some thesis-level research. Hope you don't mind me trying to tackle those at another time. Deadline calls for the paper. There's packing to be done tonight. There's a flight that gets me closer to home tomorrow. Eager to get back to St. Louis and see what you've done to the place since that first week of February. Enjoyed the afternoon spent together here, and appreciate the diversity of questions on a day when every single one of them could have been what's the latest on Molina now, how about now, how about now now now now, and how about now? Now? Thanks for bringing a wide broadband of questions.
The next time we chat there will be actual standings that count, stats that we can count.
That should give us something to talk about.
In Sunday's Post-Dispatch, the 2017 season preview drops. That includes all of Hummel's position by position scouting reports on the Cardinals. There will be a season preview story about how the transition is over, inexperience is no longer an excuse, and young Cardinals must "step up," as one official said. There's a story on how the evolution of the leadoff hitter has inspired the Cardinals' lineup. Hochman on a infielder. Ortiz on a pitcher. Hummel writes on the manager. All that and more. Plus, Dexter Fowler appears on the cover in a Chris Lee suitable to be taped on the wall all season.
Happy New Year, everyone.
