If only the games really were played on paper. Then we wouldn't have to waste anybody's time, energy and vitriol.
I would hope that almost all the teams would have urgency. Don't you think the Red Sox have urgency, with the Yankees getting Stanton?. Who have they signed? Mitch Moreland. They already had him. It's not that easy. Just because you want a player doesn't mean he'll want you.
I don't but sharp-eyed pitching coaches and veteran hitters and pitchers can get a "tell" if someone is tipping.
And also their heels when they're not hurt. .
The winter isn't over yet. Many of these free agents will be signed. The Cardinals are happy with what they've done but they never said they WERE done.
It always starts with the front office. This front office thinks the young pitching talent on the way is going to be here soon.
Pretty entitled, it appears.
I don't think Greene is that far enough yet but he's only 22 and throws 97 or 98, so those guys always have a chance.
It's only a number. There are always one of two minor league guys who could be taken off and not many would notice.
First, the other commish was dismayed there weren't more runs scored. Then there were more runs scored. Many more. Scoring runs takes time. Pace of play isn't going to help that much.
Generally, the best Cardinals teams have been the best to cover because the athletes generally are in a good mood most of the time. As a reporter, your ideal situation is a good to really good team or a really bad team. Mediocre teams harder to cover because nothing is really happening, good or bad.
Tell that to Bill White. He has told me personally he doesn't want to be considered.
Slightly more money is actually about $3 million a year difference. Even in baseball, that's still a big deal.
Agreed. But Flaherty would benefit by starting the season in Class AAA, as Weaver did last year. When Weaver got here the second time, he was ready.
The Cardinals venture to the West Coast but only to play the Twins, Red Sox and Orioles in Fort Myers and Sarasota. No Clearwater. And never any Dunedin.
Lots of power. Zero speed. And in the second one, not much defense either.
These are things I think the front office also thinks.
They're very high on Knizner, so I would not rule out Kelly going in a deal if it could help bring the Cardinals a good starting pitcher.
The Cardinals are respectful that we have a right to "call them as we see them," as they say. Surely, some critical things are said from time to time but, for the most part, no grudges are held.
Relative to Gregerson's relatively low expenditure, perhaps you answered your own question when you brought up Cecil.
Gant probably isn't to be overlooked considering he can both start and relieve, although he wasn't all that impressive.as a starter.
I thought they might but that door hasn't exactly been slammed shut. It does seem they're a bit short there, though, although we haven't seen Mikolas.
Teams can have as many as they want although they don't want so many players that they're giving out three-digit numbers.
