That's a good question. I do not think the talent is here _ or playing up to its potential _ that a combination of Whitey Herzog/Tony La Russa could make any difference. Yes, the front office is on alert but no changes in the hierarchy are imminent.
Certainly, these should be rated PG-13. I'm all for seeing more Memphis players and we already are. Sometimes, you make changes like that and you start to contend again, whether that was the primary goal or not, which it still is, so far. But it's not working this way.
There will be no expansion until Oakland and Tampa Bay's situations are stabilized. Oakland's is a long way off.
They've been open for business. But I don't feel the need to offer up O'Neill or especially Gant, who has been the good surprises of the season. I would expect to see Wacha and Wainwright both throwing during this next home stand. It will be hard right now to move Fowler because of the no-trade and the three years' money due to him.
My educated guess is that they will be using some different chaps from the fifth through the seventh or eighth. I do want to see more of Gregerson, who doesn't seem to have any problem throwing his best pitch (a slider) for strikes.
All I will say about that is that are some square pegs in round holes.
Before I swing any deals, I want to see both Wisdom and Munoz play there.
No chance. They will finish above .500 (I'm not saying how far) because their starting pitching is too good.
Before you have a true firesale, somebody has to want what you're selling. You're likely to see a few DFAs because they're going to have to pay the money anyway.
Mr. Ortiz isn't in the sports department any more .
Fowler is playing with a bounce in his step and at least is contributing something offensively. But it won't be long before we see Bader again. No, DeJong and Ozuna haven't homered in a long, long time. I could see some adjustments there. J Mart. was a pretty good No. 3 hitter for most of the season.
Folks: Commish will be back shortly. We're having him log out and then reload the chat in the hopes of enabling him to more efficiently answer your questions. Thanks for your patience.
Wisdom and Webb, yes. Mujica has been here before. Layne is a stopgap. Only Webb is on 40-man roster.
Anywhere there's an opening. I don't like him much at shortstop. But I do want to see him at third base.
I'm Ok with Pham or Molina hitting there. For a while.
There will be plenty of changes this off-season. There isn't much that can help right now. They don't need young pitching. They already have it.
I concur, to a large degree. The Cardinals need more speed (and better defense and better bullpen). The power approach hasn't worked for three years now.
Of course. But, in case you haven't noticed, the Rockies are two games out of first place.
I would be among those who would want to see Tyler O'Nell play for two or three weeks in in succession.
I'm not willing to give up Ozuna yet. They traded four guys to get him. Mercado does intrigue me. I'm all for playing for some different players. They're 50-50 the way it is.
