I am not prone not to make any predictions until I see all the teams shake out in the spring. I will say this. I think the Giants stink.
I didn't know Fowler was "taking Harper's place." There was no indication that Harper was even coming here. Again, just because the Cardinals may have the money to sign him, that doesn't mean Harper would sign with them. Washington did the right thing here. The Nationals, who have some prospects coming, signed several players for what it would have cost them to retain Harper.
I'm not on the edge of my seat.
What throwbacks are you talking about?. Big bats? Flannel uniforms? Tiny gloves? Sandpaper? , .
I would inquire about him because he is a lefthanded hitter with power. But, without Kemp and Puig, the Dodgers would seem to need him in their outfield.
As previously mentioned, Gregerson has had more injury issues this off-season and isn't being counted on to be ready at the start of this season. Or perhaps any other.
There are more free agents now than there were then and ultimately, most of the ones now will be signed. Players seemed more hesitant to go into free agency in the era you describe. Plus, there are more teams now, thus more players. Thus more free agents. The owners aren't trying to do anything other than not to pay a bunch of money for a bunch of years to somebody they don't feel can help them for that long. I see no issue with that. Owners are no more to blame than the agents and possibly less.
Ortiz didn't appear before Congress, for one thing, as part of the Mitchell report. And he was a better hitter than either of the above. And tremendous in postseason play.
Washington did better than that, signing several players, including Adams, who had a better first half for Washington than Harper did last year.
I do not think the fan outcry was commensurate with his record, which still was over .500. But Mo and Bill DeWitt Jr.., thought it was a time for a change and maybe they were right. And yes, Whitey and TLR were tied for first.
Mo said the other day that if they look around at the end of the season and see that Reyes had just 50 innings at the end of the season, they would be disappointed. He will start this season. Sometime. .
