Jose Martinez really has enjoyed playing in front of his kids, who are still in Venezuela, and other members of his family. He will have to look elsewhere for his winter ball but generally that was only about 15 games anyway.
At the time, $23 million for one year seemed excessive. We didn't know of the troubles ahead that were awaiting Carpenter.
A player has only to be in the organization by Aug. 31 to be playoff eligible That rule has been in place for several years now.
I would always take the field. Injuries have a way of cropping up in October as players' bodies are weakened after a long season. .
I read one page before realizing the author's background and his banning from the ball park. I have no interest in pursuing it further.
There have been mistakes made and I'm sure he would admit to that. In the particular case of renting a pitcher, I have no argument with his disinclination to give up prospects, which they do not have a lot of, for a pitcher who might be passing through. And now, it appears they have a good chance to make the playoffs anyway. This is probably fodder for a day in October.
He hit that ball to right field pretty well, too. On Carp. . . TBD.
They apparently win once in a while when they wear theirs.
That all sounds feasible. A lot depends on whether Martinez can start because I'm convinced Gallegos has the stuff to close, at least until Hicks returns in mid-season or before.
I think other players had helmets like that, also. In any event, in some matters involving Ozuna. we do not have the answers.
Nothing wrong with a little teeth-gnashing as long as they aren't your teeth. As far as "surging" Phils, I refer you to those two losses at Miami last weekend. Cubs still are in pretty good shape, if they can beat Brewers. Central will have two teams because there are too many games involving Braves, Nats, Mets and Phils in the East.
We also haven't discussed Adolis Garcia, highly thought of a year ago and who was here for a while last year. He just passed 30 homers and 90 RBIs at Memphis and his batting average rose substantially in the second half.
But was it an intrasquad game _ the White Sox against the castigated Black Sox? .
Not unless I was five runs ahead or five runs behind.
I'd have to look at this more when the season is over but it does seem the also-rans are punished a bit. But, on the other hand, they should have been smarter than to commit to said player in the first place. Maybe he was one of the reasons they were also-rans.
My preference is to have Molina catch all the pitchers. He is especially needed when the mercurial Martinez is on the mound. And this is nothing against Wieters, who has been very valuable.
However the off-season shakes out, the Cardinals will be looking for a third baseman and a starting pitcher.
You don't know if Waino will play and it's always better to have five other pitchers who aren't 38 years old. But he would find a place on the staff somewhere.
Gold, very possibly. Platinum. Too many candidates to consider yet.
Waino will play only for this team, as I interpret it.
