He wasn't good yesterday, which we can all agree on. But, unless he is physically compromised, I don't see any reason why you would do something drastic with him just yet.
You're welcome and yes, Hudson was dominant as a reliever in 2018 after coming up. If his sinkerball isn't working, and it wasn't on Sunday, he usually gets hit. But he won 16 games last season, more than any other rookie. He would seem to deserve another chance or two, don't you think?
I wouldn't say he would get to make all 10 more starts in this shortened season if he wasn't better, but he still should be in the rotation
He did have it on the first time he was out arguing with umpire Jordan Baker as we had in a picture in the paper. And he should have had it on the second time, if he didn't.
It depends on which position needs the most help. Carlson might not even be the first if an infielder or pitcher is needed. But Reyes and Cabrera aren't far behind as potential pitchers at Springfield and infielder Schrock and pitcher Woodford already are on the traveling taxi squad for the big-league club.
In this lineup, I don't seen how you would hit Molina, a pretty good run producer, any lower. It will be a test in Minnesota but I would call Martinez a dominant pitcher if he is on his game and he is pitching tomorrow night.
I have never dismissed the Cubs and I never have been bullish on the Reds. The top three will be in some order, Cardinals, Cubs, Milwaukee, again.
The new playoff format is a joke and done strictly for TV. The reward for winning the division should have been a free pass for the first round and to move directly into the division round rather than having to play a crapshoot two-out-of-three series. Yes, all the games would be at home but, without fans, it is not an advantage commensurate with a first-place record.
I saw some of the Pirates using the extra space. We can't see into the extra dugout space down the right-field line but I would suggest that, with the heat, some of the Cardinals might have gone back into the clubhouse to cool off.
You might want to do some research on that one, sir. I never have said, "The Cubs will be garbage."
Helsley has closer stuff and he might wind up there someday. Before you dismiss Kim, Friday was the first time since he got off the plane from Korea that anybody had hit him--the opposition or his own teammates.
My favorite came late in the 1983 season when Forsch became upset with something that Gary Carter had done during a Forsch start in Montreal. Forsch said after that game that he might have to do something about it the next time the teams played. They played less than a week later in St. Louis. Forsch threw a no-hitter. But, just because. . . he hit Carter in the butt with a pitch along the way.
I don't know about Vegas but I would not be shocked if we did not get much past the halfway mark.
The Cardinals had a more productive outfield when Bourjos was here, beginning with Matt Holliday and with Jon Jay also on hand. There is no sure thing in this one.
Since there were two outs made on one play, I can't see awarding Molina a point in that instance, even though a runner advanced to third. With two out, that runner then couldn't score on a fly ball.
Without artificial turf, Whiteyball wouldn't be quite as effective as players wouldn't be able to beat out some of those high choppers. But I like the approach of aggressive base running, which was part of Whiteyball, just as much as pitching and defense. I would argue, though, that DeJong will put himself on that "feared" list this year.
Q.: What's the playoff format for this season?
Commish: Teams are seeded 1 through 8 in each league, with three division winners at 1-2-3. Then wild-card teams are 4-5-6-7-8. Best two-out-of-three, with all games played at site of higher seed in 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 format. Then on to three-out-of-five division rounds and then four-out-of-seven league championship series and World Series.
Bader could have played yesterday, manager Shildt suggested. It depends how Carpenter's knee responds to treatment as to whether he is available to play on Tuesday. But at best it would be to DH or maybe pinch hit.
Q.: How will Alex Reyes be used when he comes back?
Commish: Reyes likely will be in the bullpen when he comes up but the plan, if he is healthy, to start next season.
Q.: Has there been any reason offered why Gallegos was late in reporting from Mexico?
Commish: There has been nothing official but Gallegos has been skittish in discussing it, so there seems to be a coronavirus issue.
