Yeah, Maybe a third party to take some of your cap dollars. But again, if you really think you're a contender you can't replace a productive player(s) for draft picks or prospects. You'd need, I think, something that can help the team this year - and that would take someone who will eat up cap dollars. So it's complicated.

Army can wait Calgary out. As time goes by their bargaining strength goes down. Tkachuck's camp can refuse to sign an extension with any other team but the Blues. Calgary got nothing for Gaudreau so now they want a big haul for MT but time is not in their side. Gawd I'm so smart don't you agree Jimmy Shimmy Koko-pop?

If you could get Krug to waive his NTC, you could bundle him and Tarasenko and have 14M in cap space. If you had to throw in a 2nd or a 3rd round pick maybe you could get them to take Scandella's 3M contract as well and we'd be able to sign a depth defenseman, a little extra offensive help and Tkachuk. Then next year you'd have cap space for ROR.

Schedule has yet to be set for Traverse City, although I think the dates are Sept. 15-19 If that's the case I may go up there for the first two games and then return. (My 50th high school reunio is Sept. 17 and I think I want to be there for that.) Obviously I'll be watching Bolduc, Neighbours - and if ihey're there, prospects such as Kessel,, Ellis, Dickinson. Snugguerud won't be there, because he'll be at the U of Minnesota by then getting ready for the college season.

With all of the impact FAs off the board (ignoring what could happen with Tkachuk), what's your initial impression of where the Blues stand in the West's hierarchy heading into next season? Calgary has imploded, Edmonton improved its goaltending, but only slightly, and none of other teams in the Pacific really got significantly better. In the Central, the Wild got worse, Chicago is rebuilding, and the Avs rolled the dice in net by deciding it's easier to win every game 6-4 next season rather than pay for a goalie. All things considered, it seems the Blues still rank 1-2 in the league even after losing Perron. Where do the Blues stand in the ole Jim Thomas power rankings?
-
I'm gonna say top 4. The goaltending upgrade should help Edmonton. Colorado will come back to the pack but still has that stop grade talent. I think Vegas bounces back at least some. Minnesota will still be good. I think Nashville improves some.I'm windering about the St. Louis goaltending over the long haul.

Vegas and Nashville are good atmospheres. The fan base in Winnipeg is great, but it's hard to get there from St. Louis. I love the trips to Vancouver, but it's a long trip. Chicago's not the atmospher it used to be, but easy to get to and rellatively easy to get tickets.

Jim, with all due respect, I watched a lot of games on TV this past season and went to at least 11 games. Not as many as you of course but the thing that bothered me about Kyrou is how easily it was to knock or strip him off the puck. The dipsy doodles are fine but in most cases he couldn't finish. Look at all the hype we heard about Kostin. Sometimes you just have to roll the dice. At least with Tkachuk you know what you're getting... for years.
-
I get what you're saying. But Kyrou is getting better in that area. He still has a high ceiling - room to grow - in my opinion. And he brings much-needed speed to the lineup. If it were more of a straight up Kyrou and a little something extra for Tkachuk it would be more palatable. But some of the rumored deals involving Kyrou just seem to be asking too much.
