I see your point. But Tampa had nothing to do with how the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons were set up or played. They had significant hurdles to clear as well. Some would say even more significant hurdles than in a "normal" regular season. So I take nothing away from the Lightning. But yeah, it wasn't quite the marathon that the Blues had to navigate.
In case you hadn't noticed, we're going overtime today on the chat due to the volume of questions. Will keep going until 5 p.m.
Obviously, some assets will come back to St. Louis, but I don't think anyone on this end expects a gold mine.
Thanks for the kind words. Those decisions are up to Gordo, but I certainly would be willing to do so.
I think Houston would do well with a team. The success of Tampa and to a lesser extent Carolina and Nashville has been good for the league. Ditto for Vegas and Colorado out West. It has truly become more of a North American sport.
I see Kostin making the opening-day roster, playing on the fourth line, and maybe getting some third-line time as well if there are injuries or he's playing well.
I would say that's possible, and something to consider in terms of a long-term deal, just because he has a physical style of play. He's not a finesse player.
Pretty much. Under the scenario you describe, he would remain Blues property.
I believe the protected lists will be made public on Sunday. So yes.
I've heard some things from the past, but nothing else during my time on the beat.
That would make sense to me - in other words, continuing to have a salary cap during the postseason.
I don't think see. I think above all else, Berube wants all players, regardless of skill level to play defense and at least make an honest effort at checking. I don't think those skills are mutually exclusive. Kyrou made significant progress this season; obviously Thomas regressed, but I think the injuries played a factor in that.
I don't really have a feel for the Islanders. Although I do know they are tight against the cap, and you'd certainly have to send more than Tarasenko their way if you were getting Eberle and Beauvillier.
I will be covering from my home office in downtown Oakville.
Thanks for all the questions. Gonna call off the chat right here and get to work on finishing my Blues defensive overview story. I think this is the most questions I've ever dealt with on a Blues chat, which speaks to the interest in this Blues offseason. Went 4 hours and still couldn't get to about 30 questions. As always, you can always try Jeff Gordon on his chat. And there's always next week on the Blues chat. Best wishes, and thanks for playing. . . . .
