All indications are that the area around the ballpark is doing well -- well, not gangbusters, but well, making money -- given the recent pandemic and the lack of fans for an entire season. That did not slow the sale of condos, based on information and reporting myself and others have done. They are moving the merch at One Cardinal Way. It's doing quite well, and Ballpark Village certainly saw an uptick later in the season. It is discouraging how BPV has led to the absence of some other places around the ballpark, some other restaurants, etc. I hope that that rebounds well.
I'm not sure what else to say here except that every comment, every source, and every bit of reporting shows that the DeWitts are not looking to sell their interest in the Cardinals. If anything, it's the opposite. A few years ago, the Post-Dispatch reported how the DeWitt Family and its various businesses had actually INCREASED their ownership in the team. When asked by Rick Hummel about what he said, Mike Shannon said he was repeating a rumor he heard.
I hear rumors daily, half dozen or more, and some of them come true and most of them do not, because rumors are writ on water and made of smoke, and it is not my job to repeat rumors, but to report whether there is any veracity, any fire to them. So, yes, rumors come from thin air because so many of them are made out of thin air, and it's the job of folks asked to check on them to find the substance through the smoke -- and be accountable for what they report.
I cannot wave away the comments I've made here as easily as, say, a rumor I'm just passing along.
