Hey Commish - Let's forget Soto. Please? How do you the rank the starting pitching options that have been discussed?
Rodon
Lopez
Montas
Odorizzi
Eovaldi
A surprise?
I put them in the order I like them. I see Rodon as a stud #2 and Lopez as #3 - Montas is not convincing me that he's more than #5. (I'm actually holding the torch for Ohtani - covers both or needs - I can dream).
What are your thoughts? -

Ben Fred wrote in his column that Mo’s tired talking points won’t fly this season. I sure wish we could go back in time to the Ozuna trade and have tired talking points. We would have Alcantara and Gallen in the rotation. And I am rooting hard for tired talking points tomorrow which would mean we keep Walker, Wynn, Gorman et al. Let’s build from within.

When you get the opportunity to acquire someone of the ilk of Juan Soto, you have to make a serious effort to get him. Is it risky to give away players like Masyn Wynn, Jordan Walker, Gordon Graceffo, Michael McGreevy or Tink Hence? Sure, but there are no guarantees their current performances will translate at the major league level. Look back at all the “can’t miss” prospects the Cardinals have had in the past several years. Alex Reyes, Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, Magneuris Siera, Randy Arozarena, Andrew Knizner, Justin Williams, Elehuris Montero… the list goes on. How many of them are All-Star caliber players? Sometimes I think we have a much higher opinion of our prospects than other teams do

Almost every team values its prospects higher than opposing teams. Soto is a different kind of player--one who might get even better than he is. And he's dangerous now. You surely have to ask about him. At the same time, you have to tend to your other--and more important--needs. The Cardinals require pitching.

Everyone keeps saying when Bader comes back. He may never truly come back, at least not as the same elite defender he was. Plantar fasciitis is not curable. It never goes away. He’ll just have to endure it and manage it as best he can. But there’s a very possibility his best self is in the past. We can’t count on him going forward. If another team wants him, we should include him in a deal to get a SP that can make a difference not just throw 5 mediocre innings every time up.

I have always been a staunch Mozeliak supporter, but I believe this year, and more specifically the off season, has been a fireable offense. He went into this season hoping that Mikolas and Wainwright would be effective starters. They have been. He hoped that Flaherty and Matz could stay healthy. Not this year. He hoped Hicks and/or VerHaagen could be starters. He hoped the other one, along with Wittgren, would be an effective bullpen arm. He hoped Dickerson would be an effective LH bat. Hope is not a strategy. This has been unacceptable. Thanks for listening to the rant.

Commish the Cardinals have been anticipating the major league potential of Nolan Gorman for a few years now and he is showing a lot of promise as a 22 year old. His name is rumored to be in various trades. They wouldn’t trade him without certainty on Nolan Arenado’s future, would they?
-
They could, if they were fairly sure Jordan Walker was ready to play third base in the majors in the next year or so. Walker probably isn't that close yet. Thanks for your all questions and comments. I'm sorry I couldn't get to all of them but the next 24 hours and two minutes could be exciting.Commish
