Has anyone offered any explanations for McFarland’s slide from dominance last year to compete ineffectiveness this year? Wondering if T.J., Maddux, or anyone else has offered opinions or if it’s just the fact that relievers are more prone to short bursts of relevance given the stress of high leverage situations.

Sorry, Commish, I cannot get on the Cardinal bandwagon until they beat a quality team. Can't beat the Rays or Red Sox, who are not even that great. Yes, they swept San Diego, but that was a fluke. The Cardinals are a playoff team, but one and done, as usual. They have too many pitching holes.

Why is beating San Diego a fluke? The Cardinals won games started by Snell and Darvish. You can't cherry-pick here. Many of the Cardinals' 'good team" losses have come against American League teams. The AL has been uniformly better for years. The Cardinals even lost two of three to Baltimore here. The Cardinals are 4-4 vs. Brewers and 4-3 vs. Giants. The Mets, however, are 5-2 against the Cardinals. The other good teams--Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia--they haven't played yet.

Wow.... This is a rough crowd who have pounded in negatives of the Cardinals into the ground. So lets ask a question that doesn't address something besides performances and management.
Its seems like we have been over shifting, and giving up too many singles to spots where traditional positioning would lead to outs. Do you know if they are keeping up with the numbers to continue so many shifts? -

I don't get to hear many of the broadcasts because I'm at the game. But, St. Louis has been blessed--from Harry Caray to Jack Buck to Joe Garagiola to Mike Shannon to Joe Buck to John Rooney as play-by-play men on radio and some of the aforementioned and Danny Mac on TV.
