I've never seen a ball off the bat on TV like Edman's last night than was for sure gone at contact. Should he work this off season on batting RH full time as he's again shown great power there and maybe evolve into what everyone hoped Dejong would be as the everyday SS? I know his speed plays but not if he can't get on base batting LH.
-
That certainly was a rocket off Edman's bat last night. Since he has shortened his swing a bit, he has been more effective as a left-handed hitter, also, He probably always will be more productive right-handed but I don't see any reason for him to switch now, especially since he has the speed to beat out hits on the ground when hitting left-handed

I can see why Stan Musial has a large statue in front of Bush stadium because he was arguably one of the top 10 hitters of all time but Bob Gibson was arguably one of the top 10 pitchers of all time and they lowered the mound because of him so shouldn't Gibson have a large statue too? Thanks for the chats!

The Cardinals and their fans do a great job of building and recognizing the tradition of St. Louis Baseball. Cardinals HOF this weekend. But I was so impressed by the Matt Carpenter ovations earlier this month. Are other teams/players such as the Yankees impressed also? Is this just a St. Louis thing? Did you get a feel for how the players on Yankees felt about Carpenter being loved/saluted so much during that series?
-
I haven't seen any other teams' fans respond the same way to a former hero returning. Just as I haven't seen any other teams' fans applauding an opposing defender for a good play in the field. I'm sure the Yankees' players were impressed mightily by what they saw and heard on Carpenter Weekend.

Molina clearly is a hot-button issue, too. So here goes. . .Willson Contreras likely will cost too much money and isn't regarded as that great a catcher although he can hit.Knizner has made great strides in closing the gap between himself and Molina and will share time the rest of the regular season.Molina apparently had some issues at home before spring training and may have been uncertain about continuing to play then and also after he went back to Puerto Rico in mid-season.

I know that Paul Goldschmidt, not a fan of extra innings, likes the contrived format after nine innings. He says strategy becomes much more important as the visiting team really has to try to score two runs instead of one because the home team will start with a runner at second, also. I do not share his enthusiasm for the rule.

The players that started the 3 games this weekend and hit 5 thru 9 went a c collective 9 for 50. When a Scherzer or DeGrom or Burnes neutralizes the top 4 hitters what is the answer for this club offensively? Molina is an auto-out to an extreme that would make Brendan Ryan look like an All-Star and the rest of the hitters will flash occasionally and then head back into hibernation. Maybe it is time to see what Burleson has, how can he do worse?

Flaherty and Yepez will be the players you will see activated next week. But Yepez can't come back until Tuesday as an optioned player and Flaherty won't be taken off the 60-day IL until he pitches Monday. That leaves one pitcher and one player to be here for only a short time this weekend before Flaherty and Yepez are the real additions. But Yepez's role might not be what had been envisioned because Nootbaar has taken the right-field position and run with it--against all types of pitching..This weekend, you might see James Naile as a pitcher and Connor Capel or Kramer Robertson as a player.
-
Dickerson hitting in the middle of the line-up all weekend in a huge series is the canary in the coal mine for this offense. Yes, he was great at Wrigley but if he is your answer this late in the season than you really are grasping at straws. If O'Neill cannot build on his recent success, this team is one-and-done again in October. Way too many holes, way too many guys that go dark for untenably long stretches.

They need two to tie with one of those this weekend against the Cubs.here. They could tie in a game against either Washington here or at Pittsburgh next week and break the mark, which would be 325, against ether Milwaukee or Cincinnati the week after that at Busch Stadium.

With your HOF qualifications Mr Hummel I am almost embarrassed to ask you a mundane question but I have a burning desire to know something. I understand a MLB player's yearly salary is allocated out only during the actual season. I am fascinated at how much each player earns per day or game. So, my question is if the salary is divided out for the yearly pay by the actual number of days on the 26 man roster or instead the actual number of games during their time on the roster? Thanks!
-
Never hesitate to ask a question. Players are paid every day they are on the active roster or the major-league injured list. Hard to say what it is per day because some players choose to be paid twice a week during the season and others elect to have their payments spread out over the entire year.

When Mike Schildt was replaced as manager, philosophical differences were cited as the reason. As this season has unfolded one big difference in managerial style that I see between Marmol and Schildt is that Marmol has regularly rested players - providing them games off, whereas Schildt seemed to expect his starters to emulated Cal Ripkin.

That is a shocking take on your part to want to see the Cards move Gorman to the OF. The Cards have a crowded OF situation with Burleson, Gomez and Walker coming from the minors. Given O'Neil's nearly MVP caliber season in 2021 and we saw last night what he is capable of. The emergence of Nootbar who appears to be an outstanding player. The Cards don't have lots of room in the OF. I see a mix match infield combination of Winn, Edman, Donovan and Gorman as a plus for the Cards for the next 5-6 years, great defenders, with power and OBP guy. Gorman can move to 1B when Goldie retires.
-
I didn't say that I wanted Gorman to go to the outfield full time. I think it would help his versatility. All these outfielders of which you speak aren't going to be here next year. At least one will be traded. And Goldschmidt plans to play another five years, I suspect.

Was shocked to see O'Neill swing at that 3-0 pitch...and then defend it. Goldschmidt doing that made sense in his situation...and I understand the established stars being on their own, but do players like O'Neill get the "take" sign anymore or is everyone left to make their own decisions even in that bases-loaded, winning-run-on-third situation?
