Greetings from sunny Jupiter! First day of Cardinals workouts and Adam Wainwright will be first to throw to hitters. Let me know what you're thinking.
Not even close. But he isn't ranked near the top either. I can think of a dozen umpires who weren't as good as Angel. .
They're probably trying to find that in one veteran player, but you're right. For the moment, Gorman and Yepez fall into that category.
MLB hasn't announced the expansion of rosters but they t almost surely will be 28 for a while, as in September. Too many players, notably pitchers, won't be ready to go full bore at the start of the season.
I do not foresee Reyes starting the season in the minors. He can be helpful as a long reliever or even a setup man. Hicks, if he is to become a starter, might have to go out for a while to build up his arm after he has been out much of the time in the past three seasons.
The lineup is set, except for DH. There will be another pitcher and hitter brought in yet, I think.
The Cardinals are wary of letting young talent get away but they also like DeJong. We'll see if that was the right idea, or not.
I don't think the Cardinals' spending habits will be affected by the length of the season. They weren't likely to be spending big money anyway.
I agree. I do know there are plenty of bobbleheads on the schedule, per usual.
Albert would be a gate attraction but he hit very poorly against righthanded pitching last season so he wouldn't get a lot of at-bats in a lineup that needs another lefthanded hitter what with all the righthanded starters in the division.
That's been kind of antiquated rule, I think.
It was unreasonable, for instance (it was corrected the next day), not to put off consideration of the international draft until later in the season. The owners were mostly at fault over that 99-day stretch, though.
Mike Shildt is helping in player development with the Padres and with on-field issues with the commissioner's office. He was a terrific game manager, I thought. Hard to compare Frank Lane to Mo, though. Mo has a World Series championship ring from 2011. Frank Lane had none with the Cardinals.
They considered It, but probably not. Early camp notes: Molina, Gallegos absent for personal reasons. Cabrera not here but believed traveling from Dominican Republic and Reyes was seen heading elsewhere in town for examination of shoulder.
They have not been in on Story.
Not yet, although he might be gone a day or two.
They need to shore up their bullpen even more, get a lefthanded bench man and hope their rotation stays healthy. They probably should make sure they have seven or eight starters and not five.
I haven't heard the latest in this saga but I hope you receive some satisfaction. It doesn't seem right.
The Cardinals needed righthanded help in the bullpen and they've made a couple of moves in that department. You would hope that they could make a more significant one and, yes, Brooks looks as if he could help either in the rotation, if needed, or the bullpen.
I am hopeful that Shildty will shed some light on this some day when he is comfortable doing do. For the moment, I can be content in feeling that somehow he ruffled Mo's feathers.
