I hasten to jump on the hate Drink bandwagon here, but….he has been touted as a creative offensive mind and I’m just not seeing it (OK so he put Burden in the wildcat for a couple snaps). I also don’t see many adjustments being made on the field or a halftime. My question to you Dave is this: do you think the lack of offense production is a function of lack of talent on the field, or lack of ingenuity in the coaches box?
-
-
I thought he completely flipped the game plan at halftime on Saturday. They opened up wanting to soften the defense with designed QB runs and RPOs. In the second half, they went to more of a vertical passing game - and it didn't work.I'm not big into second-guessing play-calling all the time for the simple fact that most of that is actually evaluating the result, not the decision.

-
I don't really question the intangibles. For one, I'm not in the locker room or hanging around the players to really know what they're saying/doing/thinking as they prepare for the game. But it's fair to question their preparation. They looked confused at times. They looked overwhelmed by the pressure on the line of scrimmage. They didn't respond to the noise well.

The great Will Rogers said, "Never miss a good chance to shut up."
So many people thought Drinkwitz was funny and could send out the zingers. How he was a modern coach adept with social media.
He has now lost my support. Reminds me of a political candidate who labeled people as "deplorables." How'd that end?
I'm not a social media person as this is as close as I get. Him calling anyone losers is beyond acceptable. If I was DRF he would've been on the carpet explaining how putting down fans isn't acceptable. To get waxed in all facets of the game then say anything negative about the team's followers to me is immature. He's yet to show me he's cut out for the SEC, or the Big 12 as far as that goes. -

A little late to the party, but work had to be done.
I'm not shocked KS St was solid in the 3 facets of the game. Having spent significant time in up north in the military I've seen almost all of the ND State's run of championships. Even though Klieman replaced Bohl as a championship winning coach he had great success. Let us not forget Bohl beat MU a few years ago, which was another gut punch game.
Klieman had to replace several coaches after Bohl's departure and clearly understood how to build a program. Now he's doing it at KS St. If I had to compare player to player Klieman's roster coming in was certainly not to the level of what Odom left. Now Kleiman whipped the Tigers with draft classes averaging ranked around 58-60. It's all about building the program and not a revolving door of coaches.
Had Kleiman's name been thrown around after Odom was fired I doubt the needle would've moved much The emphasis was on going towards and offense minded HC.
To this point after 25 games I'm not impressed and I'm okay if I never see another wide receiver screen. You can pay me $1 million and I can call those types of plays.
Last year it was bubble screen, hand it off to Badie. Not very imaginative. -

I think an OC would help both the program and Eli's continued employment. Both HC and OC are difficult time-consuming jobs and historically trying to do both has not worked well. There is a reason Lane Kiffin and Andy Reid have OCs. The offence was not prepared at KSU. I believe it is possible for a HC to still call the plays while employing an OC and also design the offence. I would also suggest that the only time he ever called plays as a head coach was at Appy State and the time demands on a head coach there and at an SEC school are quite different.

Dave, when we're watching Kansas State in a Jan. 2 bowl game, I think we'll all look back on this past week as "Oh, we didn't see that coming. The Wildcats are that good."
Question.....how many players travel for road games? Did Mizzou have the allotted total in Manhattan? -

I know the SEC stepping in and adjusting the home and home's with Oklahoma this week is a unique scenario with the legality of OK and Texas joining the conference in the coming years. Brings up the question though - do you see the SEC stepping in more often in the future to dictate non-con opponents scheduling? Said differently, would the conference step in or even force Mizzou to get out of future games at UMASS, Miami OH, Northern Illinois, North Texas etc? Those are nothing to gain, everything to lose scenarios for both Mizzou AND the Conference after all...
-
I don't see the league setting any mandates for noncon scheduling, but that doesn't mean someone from the league office can't unofficially pass along some advice. Trust me, the current regime wants no part of making those trips to the games you mentioned. I had a conversation on that topic Saturday.

The Mizzou fanbase collectively can be a bit overly-sensitive. I'm going to speak on Coach Drink's behalf even though he didn't ask me to or even know me personally at all. No, Coach Drink did NOT mean Mizzou fans such as us participating in these chats are "losers". He was obviously referring to the lunatic fringe type of fans that cross the line in going excessively ballistic on the social media accounts of his players as well as himself--ie the kind that say the most sickening, grotesque things that you can't even imagine and/or issue thinly veiled threats to him and perhaps even his family members. So as long as you're not the lunatic fringe type of psychotically stupid fan, Drink wasn't talking about you. Goodness, it's really pretty much common sense, people, and nothing worth overreacting to unless you want to do so just to have a contrived reason to hate Coach even more and think he should be dismissed ASAP because you found his words offensive even though he wasn't even talking about you.

What a miserable Saturday in Manhattan! That is the most bitter fan base i have seen. i did not get one kind word from any age person in purple at the game; just how happy they were to pound us. Did you get the quote from their coach after the game "The landscape of college football is changing and i know one thing, Kansas State wants to be part of the "haves" and wins like this elevates you as part of the "haves" We might as well have been Bama coming in; this was their biggest game of the year, all revenge. K-state was just super motivated and Mizzou did not know the buzz saw they were getting in to. Plus my hands were so cold after the weather delay, the could open a bag of chips. So i understand the poor offensive but Kstate didn't seem to be as bothered as we were.

Is Mizzou as bad as they showed on Saturday and in for a rough year (3-5 wins tops) or is this a young group who played a potential top 25 team on the road and showed their inexperience? My personal opinion says they should get better as the year goes on if the talent is as good as everyone claims.

K-State is going to put up yards on most if not all opponents. I don't think it was an indictment on MU's front. By playing a mobile QB, Mizzou's front had to play contain and couldn't afford to get too upfield with their pass rush. That limits you somewhat when it comes to sacks and tackles for loss. Early in the game, MU just couldn't get off the field on third and fourth down and couldn't get that game-changing takeaway to flip momentum. It didn't look like last year's defense where the opponent absolutely gashed the defense over and over again. Vaughn had to work fo his yards on Saturday.

With all the momentum as it is, seems Drink is in a difficult situation this week. Do you think anything less than a 35 point win, 2 Burden touchdowns, Cook passing for 350 yards, and defense holding AC to under 75 yards rushing will be looked at as a loss and just feed the crazies?
