What offers has Mizzou football sent out to the transfer portal? Also, with Lovett rumors saying he is going to LSU does that make us a feeder school for them? Last question, with only 54% of transfer portal athletes getting a scholarship in last year's portal what are the chances that it is a worse percentage this year and what would you do to change the portal or what would you say to students losing out on a quality education in pursuit of a starting position they may never recieve. -
I'm not sure where the LSU stuff started with Lovett, but that's not a school I've heard as a likely landing place. I've heard Alabama, Texas, USC, Miami and Oregon. Now, that could change by the hour, but those are the schools I've heard are in the hunt. Oregon needs wideouts badly. Texas could definitely use more weapons for Quinn Ewers/Arch Manning.I don't have a comprehensive list of transfer offers at the ready. I just don't follow the offers on a daily basis like the good folks who run recruiting sites. If and when players commit, I'll report on their decision.If it were up to me, I'd enforce more stringent rules when it comes to a second transfer. Switch schools one time without having to sit out - but not a second time. Also, they have to adjust the calendar somehow. The early signing period, the portal window and the postseason all kick off within weeks of each other in December. How do you manage all three at once and have a functional program?

You want a peek behind the curtain?On Tuesday I was at a lunch event in Las Vegas sitting alongside Mizzou's 31st head football coach, 33rd head football coach and current AD when news broke that the 32nd head coach had just been named the head coach at UNLV; I saw the report first and shared it with present company just as the cheesecake was served. Jaws hit the table. No one was surprised 32 got a head-coaching job - but what are the odds while we're all sitting in Las Vegas that he'd land the job in Las Vegas? It was surreal.

I said they didn't want to play in Memphis. Some folks - mainly those in Lawrence - probably interpreted that as not wanting to play Kansas but I was assured this week this was about one choice: five days before Christmas in Tampa vs. five days over Christmas in Memphis. And that was a no-brainer for the team.

Is wake Forrest going to be more excited about this bowl game and have less opt outs than Mizzou? It seems like in recent years the bowl games are never truly representative of our team because crucial players sit out and therefore we aren’t as competitive and lose. Will this be the same story this year?

Wake's top running back just entered the portal. I presume they'll have some opt-outs too. I've always been in the "there's no such thing as too many bowls" camp, but the opt-outs and transfers are making it nearly impossible to create buzz for a handful of bowl games if not most of them

There were quite a few fans that were disappointed with the womens basketball team the past few seasons, some going as far to say a changes needed to be made at the head coach position. So far, it appears Robin Pingeton has turned some heads with her team. With that in mind, I’ll ask you this: have you been more impressed so far with the mens or the womens basketball team?

I was one of those who complained about HCED and Cook this year. I was concerned about the wheels coming off the thing and LB transferring. But as he did last year, ED rallied the troops and pulled it out in the end and Cook looked fantastic at the end. I am sold on next year and I hope we can complete this year with a bowl win. We have a QB in Cook who actually wants to play in the bowl game, so M-I-Z! But Dave, I hear a lot of buzz about Slovis and other transfer QB's. Dont you think that Brady has earned some respect and should be looked at as the starter next year? On another topic I may not have been right about ED and his abilities, but I did pick the Tenn QB's coach Joey Halze as an up and comer. Watch out for this guy in the future, he is going to be a successful HC some day soon. Thanks for your thoughts on Cook and ED Dave! -
Did Cook do enough down the stretch - mind you, against NM State and a bad Arkansas defense - to ease any concerns about next year? I'm not so sure about that. If you're Drinkwitz I think you have to explore the QB market. For one, they need depth. They've only got two guys who have played a snap of college football - and Horn got only six.

Now that Deoin Sanders has taken the Colorado HC job, will he bring all the stars that led Jackson St the last 2 years to Colorado through the transfer portal to rebuild in year one the Buffalo football program? I guess Kevin Coleman went to JSSt because he wanted to play for him. I guess he wants to follow Sanders to Boulder. . Is this situation to start on what the NCAA wants - to allow the new coach to immediately compete while his old program has to start over from scratch? Player free agency is fine, but it seems to me it is causing more problems than it is solving.

I assume he's going to bring some of his top recruits. That's what he meant when he told the Colorado players, "I'm bringing some luggage. And it's Louie."But here's the thing: This was the plan all along when he signed those guys. The elite recruits weren't coming to Jackson State to play their entire careers there. They were coming to play for Prime and then follow Prime to a Power 5 school. I don't see any issues with that. For one, this is a very rare situation. You're not going to see this happen a lot, where a celebrity coach takes an FCS job and lands a bunch of Power 5 targets and then takes them to his next Power 5 job. It's an anomaly - but could work out very well for the Buffs and those players. I think it's great. It's got the makings for the No. 1 story in college football in 2023

Honestly, I was pretty upset last week about the portal because it seemed like Mizzou was the only team that had players saying they were going to enter. Now, looking at A&M, Florida, Alabama and Arkansas...I'm feeling pretty good actually. This could honestly be a big opportunity for Mizzou to swipe some more Hoppers in the portal, players that we had no chance with in high school but now are looking for playing time as starters after being buried on the depth chart at a blue blood university

Big difference between this week and last week: I was reporting the Mizzou player portal plans last week before the portal was officially open, so it might have seemed like Mizzou was the only school losing players to the portal. Then the portal opened Monday and the floodgates opened with hundreds of more names. So, maybe it was just excellent reporting, right?

Mizzou has an NIL collective for this very purpose. I can't predict if there's enough $ to compete for the biggest targets compared to other schoolsBut keep in mind: These decisions are rarely about one and only one factor; NIL $ might be important but the style of offense and collection of playmakers will be crucial for any quarterback target as well

Dave: seems to me that if Lovett transfers to a school like Alabama, Clemson, USC, etc. that he might end up being just another receiver in a locker room full of 4 & 5 star receivers, and, going forward, he may not get anywhere near the touches he got this year. Whereas if he stayed put, he could continue to be the "go to guy". That said, is there any chatter about all the focus that was placed on Burden this year having an impact on Lovett's decision to leave?

Yes, last year the SEC took in $12M for Alabama and Georgia making the playoff - $6M per participant. Now, those two schools each got $2M for appearing in the semifinals and then another $2M for making the championship game. So that's $8M of the $12M going to Bama and Georgia. The other $4M went into the SEC pool that was distributed evenly among the rest.

The Wake Forest coach has said quarterback Sam Harmon may opt to transfer instead of declaring for the NFL because some schools have said he could make more money playing college ball his final year than to risk being a later round selection. Is this what the come has become? Also, he said any of his players entering the portal can still play in the bowl game if they wanted to. Seems a bit odd, doesn’t it?

Not necessarily. Mizzou's Jayden Jernigan told the Oklahoma State staff last year he planned to transfer after their bowl game, but they still let him play in the Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame, even after Mizzou started recruiting him. Staffs can have different philosophies with how to approach the bowls. My guess is Mike Gundy had more incentive to put his best players on the field to win the Fiesta Bowl - knowing he had bonus pay coming if OSU won the game.
