Feel free to ingnore this if already addressed (late to the show - you know, that work thing) but if not, are you aware of any significant portal players in:
1) MBB? (If Nick Honor leaves, we could use someone to help Sean East ... and could use a 3-point ace to replace D'Moi.)
2) Men's football, particularly O-line and edge rush. -
1. Mizzou has been in touch with a lot of guards - at least according to a lot of transfers on the market. One thing to keep in mind, a player might say he's down to "School A, School B and School C" even though he's only had a brief conversation with one or two of those schools and hasn't even received an offer. That's usually the case when a player says he's deciding between a high major and two low-majors or even a mid-major.One transfer that's intriguing is UNLV's Keshon Gilbert. He's a combo guard from St. Louis (Vashon HS) who can shoot and defend.2. No new names on the football front.

Any word from the 5 seniors on whether or not they are going to return for a 5th season next year? Or at least when they plan on making a decision by. Seems it would be best to know before the end of the tournament and we lose out on prime transfers if they don't come back.

One further question about WBB. Robin mentioned hitting the portal hard as a way to improve the team. According to my calculations, she has a full roster with the 4 incoming freshmen. Do you expect her to push out any players to make room? How can she make an impact from the portal otherwise? Also, key assistant Chris Bracey was not on the bench the last half of the season. Any insight on what's going on there?
-
Bracey took what I was told was a leave of absence for undisclosed reasons. You can have 15 scholarship players in women's basketball. MU has 11 with remaining eligibility and has signed four for next year, so they'll need to clear some roster space to add any transfers. I imagine there will be turnover in the coming weeks. Not sure who.

There was a recent report in the Fort Worth Star Telegram that Lampkin and his mother have accused TCU coach Jamie Dixon of mistreating Lampkin. There were reports that he quickly committed to Ed Cooley at Georgetown but he's since said that's not true. Cuonzo Martin's staff recruited him heavily, so he's familiar with the program.

Dave, I have no doubt that the style of play used by Coach Gates can produce a winner. We just saw it this past year. My concern is the overplaying on defense can at times lead to WIDE open 3 point attempts. Is that a flaw within the system or are players supposed to rotate and cover the open shooter?
-
I'd say it had more to do with Hodge's ability to steal the ball than an over-arching defensive principle of Gates and his staff. They let him gamble on those steals knowing they'd have to adjust their rotations if they didn't get the turnover. I'm not sure we'll see the same strategy going forward all the time.

Any more insight into how Mizzou's NIL collectives are working? I'd be interested in everything from the process (beyond the surface stuff we already know) to how deep, how effective, who might be involved (both as donor/recipient). I realize these are private organizations but was hoping you might be able to get some info since I imagine the collectives wouldn't necessarily be against the publicity, if done right.
-
The collective's web site lists many of the primary donors. I've written a lot about the collective. At this point it's not my place to advertise for them or just give them free promotion. If you want to learn more beyond what I've reported, I'd suggest reaching out to the folks at the collective.

When the Tigers were in Sacramento I looked at a few NBA mock drafts and Kobe Brown appeared on zero of them. Have you seen him predicted somewhere?
It seems like even if he were projected at a #50 (not that I've personally seen that) he would be better served to take NIL money for 1 year then improve his draft chances.
Or is the assumption that he'll go to the combine sand his stock will rise? (Dramatically) -

Your earlier comment that a 6-6 record this fall would have you expecting a coaching change; Drinkwitz being out. Regarding that what is his buyout be? And secondly, should that happen do you suspect Reed-Francois would look toward an established, successful HC ?
-
Here's what I wrote back in the fall when he got the extension:
If Mizzou fires Drinkwitz, it would owe him 75% of what’s remaining on his contract — $6 million due within 30 days of his termination and the rest paid out over the life of the contract. However, the new buyout is fully mitigated, meaning should Drinkwitz land a new job after getting fired, his buyout is offset dollar-for-dollar based on his new salary. Only four other SEC head-coaching contracts are fully mitigated with similar offset language.
So, they'd owe him $19.9M total, but $6M up front and the other $13.9 over the next four years. BUT, he's required to seek other employment to get the buyout, and his new contract would be deducted from the buyout. So if he gets a three-year deal to be a coordinator at $2M a year, MU would only owe him $7.9 over the course of four years.
Way too early to start projecting who she'd hire next. Normally I'd say you better hire someone with HC experience, but six of the other SEC head coaches didn't have prior HC experience.

Why must Drink hold the Spring game so early every year? It does not seem to hurt Bama or Georgia or LSU or anyone else having it a little later in the Spring. I was listening to Finebaum this week and he and his guest seemed like they didn't even know that Mizzou was having a Spring game when it was announced that the public version of it would be cancelled. Just from a publicity standpoint Mizzou goes through the offseason with little to no buzz (of course winning a bowl game once in a while might help) and having the Spring game a little later might not only help with the weather, but also help Mizzou with a little offseason buzz. What are your thoughts, Dave? If it is such an advantage for us to have it so early, why isn't that helping us on the field? Where are the results?
-
He doesn't care about spring game publicity probably because the spring game has never been nearly as big a deal for Mizzou fans compared to what it is at other SEC programs, even when MU had good SEC teams. The spring just isn't a major priority for him and neither is offseason publicity.
-
Keith, Drinkwitz wants the spring practice (etc) concluded before Spring Break, and if anyone gets hurt he wants them to have time to recover before preseason. Per Dave Matter.
