Already giving up on these guys for this season? A lot has changed since I left for Florida. There was a report out of Canada about Army floating Binnington in trade talks this season, before the deadline. Whatever happens will be influenced by what does or does not happen to the team down the stretch. If Husso takes over, I'm not sure how you let him walk and go back to Binnington next season..
Yesterday's price is not today's price.
That's what I would bet on, yes. Yepez gets booted to Memphis with Pujols addition. Brendan Donovan to Memphis as well, due to 15 pitchers, probably.
I don't think he spoke about it yesterday. Ill be sure to ask him if he's ready for some to call for Pujols to replace him after his first strikeout. Kidding, kidding. Kind of.
Realistic expectations are going to be a must. He will run into some homers if the Cardinals don't overexpose him. The Dodgers figured it out. Cardinals can too, if they don't get greedy with it.
They should be an at-large NCAA Tournament team next season. No excuses.
They liked how he built Cleveland State up from a mess he inherited there, and they think his encouraging recruiting and development at Florida State as an assistant will bode well for the talent he can get at Mizzou. He's got good connections to junior college as well, and good players can be found there. He just got one of the highest-ranked ones, to start off his class at Mizzou. Mizzou wasn't working with the kind of money some figured it would after paying $6 million to fire Cuonzo Martin.
He'll be in the Memphis rotation, and needs to turn heads there this season. A 2022 debut could be in store if he does.
There are some good signs, yes. Good quality contact. Driving the ball. But he knows he needs to prove it in games, and there's nothing to get too pumped about until he does. He's up for the challenge. I like where his head's at, and this lineup will put him in a better place in terms of expectations.
The team is very high on Dakota Hudson. Wainwright looks ready and feels good. He's always tinkering, this time on becoming more unpredictable in his pitch sequencing. VerHagen has impressed, and hitters seem like they don't quite know what to make of him. Matz was not sharp last time out but insisted that is fixable. He needs to stay out of the meat of the zone and keep stuff down, so those hits turn into grounders the defense can field. Mikolas was on backfield for last start so hard to read too much into that.
Speaking of Matheny, the Royals have an exciting young team.
Winning should probably be the most important thing. Just saying :)
NBA prospects? I would say slim to none at this point. He didn't look like a starter very often at SLU and had a bad habit of making head-scratching decisions in crunch time. Looks to me like a nudge out, as much as a jump toward the pros. He should probably transfer to another program and try to develop there.
Hard to slot a player who is not on the team into the projected lineup, but I get your point.
Fifth or sixth is my guess. Thanks, Dennis.
Yepez will be in Memphis after this Pujols addition. All but certain of that.
I need to run, folks. Time to switch gears. Recap coming later tonight at STLToday. Thanks again for your questions and comments. We're off next week as I head home from Florida. Back at it the following week. Cheers. -BF
