No thank you. It would water down the madness. Win or go home. It make the magic.
Maybe somewhere down the line of the season, but not out of the gate.
Settle down? The chat? Never!
If there is a plan, it's not being shared. "When appropriate" seems to be the most agreed-upon approach. The unofficial press-box over-under this spring has been set at 30.5 starts for Knizner. I'll take the under. Molina didn't come back to sit.
His chance is not over. But he has not maximized the spring opportunity, that's for sure. Neither has Bader to close the door.
My comment is that you are underestimating the wrestling team.
I think you will see most if not all starters make shorter starts as the season gets off the ground, across baseball. Teams are pretty cautious considering the turbulence caused by last season. But one things are rolling, the Cards desperately need both Jack Flaherty and Adam Wainwright to eat innings. Miles Mikolas was supposed to be a part of that but now who knows. Kim is not a marathon pitcher. Neither is Gant, who struggles third time through. Carlos could be -- if he does not use 25 pitches every first inning. Cards really need to lean on Flaherty and Wainwright especially as Kim and Mikolas work their way back.
It can and has been done in the past, but not for a while by a Cardinal and, yes, it seems unrealistic. There is a disconnect there. Front office says 100-inning target is the plan. Manager says inning goal/target is not something he's going to get into, and then talks up Reyes as closer option. See the rub? My prediction is that Reyes falls well short of 100 innings and we are having this same discussion a year from now about if he's "ready" to stat -- while he says he is and has been for a while now.
I don't hear anyone lauding his abilities. I hear a lot of people made that he exists. The Cardinals seem content to pay him $18.5 million to sit on the bench. It's not my money.
What's the column you are dying to read?
First and foremost it will take the Cardinals deciding they want to see him play a bit there. The fact he hasn't in a game is telling. They don't seem to see it.
