No, I don't see runs scored as being a big MVP stat because that relies heavily on other players. Flaherty has had multiple injuries now, so he on the brink of "injury-prone."
Trading low on DeJong won't yield much, but there may not be much choice. There will be lots of shortstops on the market this winter and Sosa is making a case internally.
Wainwright, Flaherty, Hudson, Reyes, Mikolas with TBA as the sixth option.
Their play and his outward personality do sync up. But Mike is more fiery than he lets on during his media sessions.
Nothing to report on either front.
Other than the Devils, I believe any team mentioned for 91 would have to offload salary to fit him in.
Maybe, maybe not. The Cardinals committed a lot more than that to Arenado.
Doug is not a fan of eating contract to make somebody go away.
But at least he had managerial experience when he took the job here.
He was under heavy consideration here before.
Matt Holliday was a free agent when he signed here, so I'll pick him.
I don't see this team buying multiple free agents. That's not how they operate. Could they spend that $30 million on Trevor Story? Sure, but the would have to do other things like offload DeJong, trade for pitching and count on low-cost prospects to fill the DH, fourth OF and utility role.
If he rescinds it, he rescinds it. Or he could also say bring a team's name that's not on my list and I'll think about it. The latter approach could leave him in limbo a while longer.
There will be opportunity this winter, especially if DeWitt opts to bump up payroll to boost the team's chances.
The team must use the final month-plus to prepare for next season. Fans should do the same to keep from going nuts.
The Cardinals may be busy, but through various means. Scherzer figures to land in a big market capable of underwriting his injury risk.
Jordan Walker has explosive potential.
A lot of good thoughts in these chats . . .and also some overreaction.
Lots of people are involved, from pro scouts to the analytics team.
I'll go with No. 5, Paint it Black.
Hey, my answer still counts!
That trade had to help Mozeliak's stick. But, again, if I am DeWitt I am more interested in the plan moving forward. Do I believe in it? Can we execute it? Or is it time to try something new?
The Cardinals like their trade for Goldschmidt. Same for Arenado. Same for O'Neill. Randy Liberatore has been pitching well in Memphis, so he may yet be a plus. Ozuna was a disappointment because he wasn't long term, but he did help win a division title and reach the NLCS. People miss Luke Voit for obvious reasons, but Giovanny Gallegos has been an elite set-up man.
OK, that was a workout! Thanks for all the comments and questions. I'll see you next week.
