Huge win for the Illini. National media types had some fun with the crazy overtime, which was utterly implausible. But in the end it was a massive win for a coach trying to establish something.
I imagine that was the source of some friction, yes.
Dale Tallon had his own issues in Florida, so I don't see him coming back. Broadcaster and ex-goaltender Kevin Weekes might get a call. It's tough to say because we've seen some younger guys (Chris Drury, Kevyn Adams, Bill Guerin) get hired in to GM roles. Also, we've seen older guys (John Davidson, Brian Burke) get another crack at the president level.
The Mets organization was absolute catastrophe last year and Steve Cohen clearly won't be an easy owner to work for.
If the Blues get around to trading Tarasenko, they would be well-advised to get a shutdown in return, either directly or indirectly with cap space created. Maybe he gets moved for draft picks/prospects and the team hits the summer market for a stay-at-home defender.
We touched on that earlier. At one point it appeared a linesman had to reel them in and get them refocused.
It's always a good idea to assemble a diverse field staff that is capable of connecting with a diverse set of players.
It was hard to watch him waddling around the bases.
The Cardinals haven't looked outside the organization for many important hires over the years. And with a strong team leadership already in place, there was no interest in going outside the family for this hire.
If a player is offered good money now, he should take it. If there is a long work stoppage, that money might not be there later. Also, if a team needs to fill a need, it should fill the need rather than bet that other teams will put off filling needs and leave lots of talent in the marketplace.
I'd be surprised if either held similar roles in the future. The NHL wants to make an example of them.
The umpires were calling balls and strikes. If it was that obvious that the Astros were communicating signs to players, then opponents simply should have mixed up their signs. That's how this issue has always been handled.
That's a lot of money for not leading.
Has Arenado announced his opt-out after next season? I wasn't aware of that. And O'Neill, Carlson, Bader, Edman, Hudson, Reyes, Cabrera, et al have plenty of miles left, as does Goldschmidt.
I have a soft sport for the Salukis. Daughter No. 2 is a proud alum.
