I believe that was an accurate interpretation. At the end of the day, you are well-schooled in Mo-Speak.
That is especially true to the Cardinals Hall of Fame.
There could be a market for DeJong, if the goal is to just clear payroll space. His money is not bad for 2022, but his salary plus buyout tops $11 million in 2023. Do the Cardinals really want to gamble that they can get a good return on those dollars after his last two seasons?
As I noted earlier, the Cardinals can afford to stretch the budget. Yes, the team took a financial bath during the pandemic, but years and years of profitability should allow DeWitt to stretch a bit without tearing a wallet muscle.
Joe Kelly is great theater! The Dodgers apparently want him back and Joe's wife insists that concerns about his arm are unfounded. But we can dream, right? Joe would provide great copy, yes. And he still has that runaway fastball to keep hitters on edge. He could bolster the bullpen here if healthy.
Luis Castillo is an interesting guy. Bigger ballpark here, good defense behind him, good vibe on the pitching staff . . . that could work. The Reds are in a rebuild, so I could see them moving him out for younger pitchers. Trouble is, that's an area where the Cardinals are still trying restock. Matthew Liberatore is on the cusp and Zack Thompson might have turned the corner in the Arizona Fall League. Those two would seem to be off-limits.
I can see that playing out. If there is a better-hitting backup catcher available -- and I'm not sure there is -- then I would look up to upgrade there while anticipating more time off for Molina.
And your take doesn't factor in the damage Sosa did when he got regular at bats. There may be something there and the Cardinals need to find out if there is.
Yeah, Roy has a lot of energy this week.
I take pretty much all of the questions unless they are repeated questions, obscene or depicting graphic violence. Want somebody fired, OK, want somebody to suffer medieval torture, not fine.
Yeah, Tucker is too good for this sort of role. Where is Matt Wieters when you need him? An earlier chatter noted that Schwarber could be an emergency catcher who allows Knizner to pinch hit, but in a DH world I can't imagine a scenario where Knizner would pinch hit.
Obviously the MLS can't measure up to any of the top European leagues. The MLS features some players who have played in the biggest stages, but I'm guessing it would be like comparing the G League to the NBA.
At first blush I like that. The restricted free agency concept can work. In the NHL you don't see many offer sheets, but the threat is always there and all the top RFAs got paid.
OK, that looks like it's it for this time. I gotta roll. See you next Friday!
