So far, so good. With the expanded pitching staff, I don't see why he is not in the bullpen if healthy.

Shout out to Tackleberry for the “Holy Grail” reference. I have to disagree with a previous commenter who said championships are won on the field. I think they are won in the front office. That is why the Blues will probably win a championship before the Cardinals - the Blues have the better front office. Most battles are won before the first shot is fired. Thanks, Jeff, and I will have to give Jet’s Pizza a try.

If Shildt were still the manager, he would look at that $30 million decrease in payroll instead of the promised increase and have a few things to say. That is likely the philosophical difference.

If he were still here, he would expect the team to keep making improvements if needed. Marmol expects the same, but he probably won't bring that up to the media.

There is a gulf the size the Grand Canyon between being an upper tier SEC school and being a better fit in the AAC. To suggest otherwise is intellectually dishonest.

The Big 12 just took three AAC teams in. If Mizzou way better than Cincinnati, Houston and UCF? I don't see the gulf.

To say the Cardinals added pitching aggressively last season is just wrong. In the same answer you stated "while not waiting until July". The truth was they added a few older pitchers just to cover innings, which is exactly what Mo said after the deadline. It just so happened to work much better than they could have imaged. Let's not act like they went out and made impact moves. All they truly wanted to accomplish was to survive the season.

Well, the pitching they added were integral to the epic winning streak. That makes them impact additions.

looking at next years cap space the Blues have 10.5 million to work with and if they get the 1.5 cap limit that is 12 million. If DA trades Tarasenko for picks/minor league players that is almost 20 million. Depending on if they move on from JB who knows what it gives him. But he could do a lot. Maybe Tkachuk from Calgary. First 10 million + Blue????

I would be surprised to see Armstrong break his salary structure for Tkachuk. Maybe it would happen, but I'd be surprised. Also, trading Tarasenko now that his stock is high might yield high-end talent in return. Teams wished they could have added him when they had the chance.

Jeff I still do not understand the dynamics from the Cardinals point of view when it comes to O'Neill and Baders arbitration cases. Risk alienating your young stars and it costing you down the road in potentially losing them for not large amounts of money. Whats your views on that. Thanks as always

Obviously it's preferable to settle before going through the mechanics of the process, but O'Neill and Bader are confident guys. I don't see them coming out feeling wounded.

When you lower your standards to just beating Milwaukee for the Central you often find yourself severely undermanned come October. It reminds me of when the Rams used to build their team around defense to beat Seattle and San Francisco in FG kicking contests but then they forgot that the rest of the NFL actually scores points.

But went the Braves win it all with the team they had -- as opposed to the Greatest Team Ever Assembled -- then we are reminded again of the unique nature of postseason baseball. It's a world where Anthony Reyes can fare better than Justin Verlander.
