Well, Paul DeJong IS under contract for 2023 and he does have a buyout for 2024. So we'll see. The Cardinals ate pretty much all of Dexter Fowler's remaining money to move him for his last contract year. So if DeJong doesn't earn a spot in 2023, there is some precedent for moving on from him. (Then again, the team kept Matt Carpenter for whatever reason when he wasn't hitting last season. And unlike Carpenter, DeJong at least can field well.)

Hello BoBo. There is a lot of talk about bringing Gorman up and I was wondering if you thought it might be a good idea to see what the Cards have in Sosa, Yepez, Nootbar, Burelson and Dickerson? Also would it be a good idea to give Gorman more time at 2nd and bring him up at the end of the season when they expand the roster. Have a great weekend BoBo!

If Nolan Gorman can trim his strikeout rate and deliver more 3-for-4 and 3-for-5 games at Memphis, I would take a long look at him in June. This team desperately needs more offensive heft, especially from the left side of the plate. Lars Nootbaar might stick as a fourth outfielder some day and Brendan Donovan could earn a utility role, but Gorman offers strong every potential. Don't hold back his development if he's killing it in Triple-A.

That could be a high-scoring, up-and-down series. The Blues might be better in that sort of series, given the state of their blue line, than they are in a grind-it-out series like this one. At least in a transition-style series they could put all their forward skill to good use.

For all the people calling for the firing of Albert, and or getting rid of DeJong, don't hold your breath. Mozeliak will NEVER admit to making a mistake, and in either of these two instances, firing Albert or getting rid of DeJong would be doing just that. I think they have to seriously consider moving DeJong. He's got a team friendly contract, and given the Cardinals history of their traded players flourishing elsewhere, there might be a team willing to take a chance.

I believe the Cardinals still own their farm teams in Springfield and Palm Beach, which plays in a stadium the Cardinals share with the Marlins. In Springfield they share the stadium, which was built by local business interests, with Missouri State. The Cardinals had a stake in Memphis team but sold it.

Let's just do a YTD review of Mo's free agency signings:
Matz - he's been fine, no better than a 4/5 starter. But it would look a lot better with less years
Pujols - as advertised vs lefties, being overused and exposed vs righties
Dickerson - Fail
Brooks - Fail
VerHagen - Fail
Wittgren - excellent
So Mo's HR signing is the shortest pact of the 5 and a reliever. And fans wonder why this organization always falls short in the playoffs. -
Dickerson was a low-cost stopgap signing, buying Gorman some time that Gorman is using well.Brooks was a depth signing. He provided depth when the rosters were expanded.VerHagen got hurt -- so it's too early to write him off.A few weeks ago fans were wailing about the deplorable state of the team's pitching. Now the Cardinals have the fourth-best team ERA in the majors. Dakota Hudson and Jordan Hicks are back from major repairs and throwing well. Ryan Helsley and Andrew Pallante have become excellent home-grown pitching options. Juan Yepez has come up from Memphis to add more offense.
-
Cards have to leave Edmonds at 2nd gold glove and off to good start hitting. Bench DeJong, Sosa to short. Let Gorman play outfield at AAA. If Chris Duncan can play there Nolan can. This isn't rocket science. If Yepez and Gorman play better than Pujos and Dickerson so be it.

Gordo thanks as always for taking our questions. Not that it matters one bit but I was curious if you think Petro is having even a twinge of buyers remorse for missing out on the most exciting playoffs in all sports? Especially considering the Knights have a very tricky salary cap to navigate going forward with no guarantees of being a dominant team. I guess I was thinking about this because the Blues could sure use their former captain about now but I imagine he is just fine living in glitzy Vegas and going to the bank on the 1st and 15th! Thanks!

Actually Alex Pietrangelo also has a house in the STL and his family still spends some time here. I would not be surprised to see him settle here after playing. As for the Golden Knights, that scenario could get even weirder given the compulsive nature of the management team here. Meanwhile the Blues remain on their steady course.

You know Gordzonga I've been watching this knowledgeable hockey ex executive Craig Button. He generally knows his stuff. He said that there are really not a lot of good head coaches in the NHL. He thinks that's why it's a revolving door. Same 10 coaches get fired and rehired. I think he's right. Like I think Lindy Ruff is bad and the Wings fired Blashill. Who is a bright young up and coming head Coach? Far and few between right?
-
There are lots of good young coaches, but they all face the same challenges. Teams that are in the hunt are strapped by the salary cap and unable to make lots of changes. So coaches have to do what they can with a flawed roster. It's so bad that teams often can't call up the best available AHL player because there is no cap space for that guy. Also, coaches get saddled with guys with no-trade protection, huge guaranteed money and no real accountability.Among the top 20 teams or so, there's not much separating them in talent so most games are tight. If team a suffers a bunch of injuries at the same time, they can fall from the race quickly. And teams that are rebuilding, like the Red Wings, face a mismatch every night.Coaching in the NHL is hard, hard work.

I could see the Cardinals conceding the point if Edmundo Sosa can't step up. I could see the team adding a mid-level shortstop who can field and add some offense. But Masyn Winn has a fascinating skill set at shortstop, so I don't see the team taking on massive Nolan Arenado-like money at that position.
-
Jeff, it's too bad you can't pull up the chat from April-June 2019 when everyone was on the Binner bandwagon. Husson has been playing well the last several months, so was Binner in 2019. What's to say Husso doesn't do the same thing. With goalies, it's all about confidence.

Happy Friday Commissioner Gordon.
The earlier submission from Metal Mike is interesting. I would like to see what Bob Gassoff could do in today's NHL. Just the idea of having to face Gasser would scare most forwards today, I'm told his fingers were as thick is bratwursts! Rest in peace Bob Gassoff! -

The Cardinals were never going to make big changes for 2022 because most of the lineup was set, pitchers were coming back from repairs and there were some top hitting prospects on the front burner. The Reunion Tour is selling some tickets while buying the Cardinals another year to develop their top hitting and pitching prospects.

Waino will always be in the conversation when there are big games and to-date Mikolas has been excellent. But if Flaherty struggles even a little upon his return, this club needs to go get an ace. Not Matz 2.0, not an innings eater, but a bona-fide ace. The team can't keep calling Waino their ace and Flaherty's health just isn't reliable. If the playoffs started tomorrow and we were on the road how good would you feel about throwing Waino and then having Hudson in game 3?
