The NHL regular season standings are skewed by 3on3 overtime wins (which barely resembles a real game) and shootout wins. Only three West Conference teams had over 40 wins in regulation. Colorado had 46, Blues had 43 and CalGARY had 44. Minnesota had only 37. So Blues and Colorado were pretty even over the season. Makar, Mackinnon and others on that team can fly. Makar is probably not stoppable, but with all the penalties being called, and the Blues power play production, they have a good shot at the upset. Binnington has struggled in Denver, but what has Kuemper ever won? Binnington's mojo can be contagious.
Cant wait. -

That Baltimore bunch is a really tough outfit stl lucky to win one of the games I guess?
Also why no push back on smarter than everybody else Mo for wasted money on Wiggington Fowler Carpenter PDJ
And a slew of pitchers
Moe is mediocre and he provides us with a mediocre team. It’s a simple as if it rains the ground will get wet -

Yes, the struggles of other hitters made it harder to accept DeJong's sub-.200 hitting. As for expectations, I believe getting more power and a somewhat higher average from Dylan Carlson would be reasonable this season. That would be a natural part of his maturation. As for O'Neill, the hope was just for more of the same. He played at a pretty high level last year.

Hi Jeff, I was just wondering why so many articles by you on the Wild? And are you a blues fan? I only ask because it seemed like from the articles I read that you wrote you were favoring the wild. Nothing wrong with rooting for the other team I’m just curious. Thanks for your time and have a great weekend!

Easy answer: Jim, Tom and the two Bens wrote extensively on the Blues during the playoffs. What I like to do with Tipsheet is hit topics not covered as much elsewhere on the site that day. Plus I tack on perspectives on the other playoff rounds from other writers. Just trying to round out coverage.
-
Dom over at the Athletic put out his power rankings and had the Blues 7th because he can't rank them "lower than a team out of the playoffs". There really isn't any love for the Blues outside St. Louis. I don't get it. Blues have a great core forward group, goaltending and experienced, engaged coaches. Is it a "small town" type of thing
-
In fairness to folks doing power rankings, there are a LOT of very good NHL teams this year -- crazy depth, really. That was reflected in the first round when over Colorado-vs-Nashville was a clear mismatch. Also, a lot of teams had individual put up insane numbers this season. The Blues did what they did with depth. If they can skate with the 'Lanche and put their skill on display, the respect will follow.

Thanks for the chats and what must be a scramble to answer waves of questions that touch on so many different topics (albeit, hockey is the main game today). Not to sound too sensitive, but I have not picked up much national media conversation about the Blues at all. They just finished a tough series and hardly a mention by the national writers. You'd think the Toronto Maple Leafs were in the Cup now with all the press they get. Plus, the other contests seemed to get some attention but Blues-Wild were ignored. Is that a fair assessment?
-
The Eastern Conference was a lot better than the Western Conference this season, so the East Coast bias was justified this time around. Also, Toronto and Edmonton's combination of high-end talent and longstanding frustration draws much of the Canadian focus. So I cut the national folks some slack.

I understand that tv rules everything, but there's bargaining in every negotiation. I'd love for someone to answer how much push back would tv give if the NHL insisted Central Time zone markets must start prior to 8:15pm. Because if it's under 30 million dollars a year, there's enough bargaining power for central time fans to make a gripe and get their way. I'd give two toes to get an hour extra sleep each night during the playoffs. If we only had a newspaper to find out the answer for us.......hmmmmm............something to think about

Hi. Thank you for your answering our questions. I am wondering if MLB is rethinking speeding up the games. My local AA team found the pitch clock so effective at shortening the games they lost too many concession sales. They now open the gates at the same time but start all games later to try and recoup sales.

I told you the Blues would win in 6 and if everything broke right they could win in 5. Well, the backend suffered a lot of injuries, but 6 got the job done. If this is the REAL Jordan Binnington, I will say if everything breaks right the Blues can close the series out in 6. If this goes to Game 7, then all bets are off. Puck luck could determine Game 7. IMO, this is the Western Conference Finals. The two teams in the conference with the best chance at winning the cup. I really hope the Blues win. A series loss could be the backbreaker for the Avalanche for a good five years. It would be a great thing to see. Let's go Blues!!

The chat meister always looks smart when he agrees with my opinions. Your assessment of Sosa is exactly the same as mine. He brought much more to the table at the end of last season than DY. His defense is comparable but his baseball instincts are much better and his speed is a difference maker. DY is one dimensional by comparison. Hopefully Sosa runs with this opportunity, though Donovan will have to cool off him to get a chance.
