They were pretty close into total usage in that game, with Barbashev getting two more minutes of 5-on-5 play and a minute on the penalty kill. The way Berube shuffles his lines, the fourth line because a third line when one of the top wingers drops down to it. Berube essentially gave Toropchenko third-line minutes, minus special teams. His star is rising.

With all due respect, Jeff, what on earth makes you believe "Woodford will get more opportunity this season"? He easily won the so-called competition in Spring Training for Flaherty's vacated rotation slot, after having a solid 2021 where he posted a sub-.400 ERA for the year, and was tremendous (2.51 ERA) in September. So what happened? All of that got him the inconsequential role of Mop-Up Man for boy manager Oli Marmol.
Then Woodford was effective in that meager role, which somehow got him demoted to AAA! Woodford isn't blind, he isn't stupid. He already did everything humanly possible -- it's got to be driving him a little nuts at this point. Either Marmol has a personal non-baseball grudge against Woodford, or Marmol believes that anyone who doesn't have a mid-90's fastball can't possibly be a good pitcher unless his name is Wainwright. -
Are you related to Jake Woodford? Don't worry man, the kid will be back in the big leagues. This team has a rotation need. If Woodford pitches well in Memphis he will get his chance. If he was somehow traumatized by his perceived slight from Marmol, that does not bode well for his career.

Matthew Liberatore got a lot of hype because he was a highly touted prospect early on for Tampa Bay and he was traded for Randy Arozarena. What happened is he has been less-than-dominant in the minors. As for left field, I'm guessing that becomes Jordan Walker's future if Tyler O'Neill doesn't secure that job for the long haul.

You know I don't think Kostin knows how he is most effective. He's not a 4th line grinder/checker. I see him as too 9. He's very skilled just because he's big and hits people Berube seemed to pidgin hole him. Wanted him to be maybe like Sundqvist? You think he's now trade bait? Or develop him differently? Seems a waste to not get the most out of him.

Gordo in game 1 Nathan McKinnion was circling the Blues like he was the last skater in the old ice capades pinwheel. He was a non factor in game two. Kudos to Coach Berube and the Blues for making and executing the changes. The AV’s will come out flying in game 3. How likely are the Blues to continue that smothering forecheck and keep the pressure on Colorado the remainder of series?
-
Well, they will try, They have the blue print and they followed it once. The big question is, how will the Avalanche respond to such a poor outing? Can they sustain their pushback? The Blues can win this series if they can frustrate the Avalanche. But that is such a big if. I can't predict that because I was stunned by Game 2's lopsided nature.

I think MLB is in big trouble. Attendance is down over last several years; TV viewership is way down over last two decades; the game takes forever to finish with batters strapping and re-strapping themselves between pitches; too many strike outs; and too many non-competitive teams content with low payrolls and losing game after game and season and season. One day those fat TV contracts are going to go away, and relying on revenue from the gambling industry will only take you so far. Will MLB wake up before it's too late to fix the sport?

There is a lot of debate in chats like this about how good or bad Mozeliak is at his job. How much of the drafting and development should a GM get credit for? I think you could easily make the argument that you could take away MO’s trades and free agent signings for the last 7 years and the team would end up in the same place. Barely making the playoffs and knocked off early. Yes the offense would be worse but the pitching staff would be fantastic. Isn’t it possible his track record of success is in spite of his moves and not because of them?

Thank you for answering my question earlier about the cash MLB collected on AppleTV. But your answer to the recent poster about the cash MLB is collecting from these streaming services is short sighted by MLB. Look at Netflix which had huge hits, but is losing money. The market is too chopped up. Baseball has a hardcore fanbase they should first strive to keep happy. As I indicated earlier, the investment we make in baseball is not cheap. If the fanbase is diluted like these other streaming services are finding out, the owners won't like the result. Again, thank you for good information and your always great chats.

Gordo:
On TBS, the NHL studio crew (who I find to be very entertaining) described Colton Parayko as one of the best shutdown D-men in the league and praised his game 2 performance. Despite Colton’s struggles earlier this year I completely agree.
Anson Carter mentioned how Parayko has been criticized for “soft” play, but praised Colton’s poise and even-keeled nature as being a major asset in his overall game. Paul Bissonette added that Parayko could not get away with Pronger-like play in today’s NHL.
Do you think some fans are asking for and expecting too much from Colt55 at this point? How much more could he do to improve his game? -
