Carlson gets a break in this weekend series right? We watched Marmol run Edman and Donavon into the ground earlier in the year are we witnessing it now with Carlson? Also no matter how much they want him to be Carlson isn't a leadoff hitter and he's shown that for 2 seasons now.
-
Carlson has a .386 on-base percentage leading off an inning -- but a dismal .225 OBA overall while hitting in that spot. Your point is well-taken. Brendan Donovan looks the part of a leadoff hitter, like Edman, but he has a .242 OBA there. So what's a manager to do?

Everyone has a different opinion on what the Cards need to be an elite team next year…
Catcher, outfielder, but where does our next ace come from.
They don’t play in the deep end of the pool in free agency, so who do they trade to get a good young ace?
Eg Miami wants good young hitters so O’Neil for Lopez? Or would they settle for Juan Yepez and another prospect.
When are we going to see Burleson? -
Miami was holding out for a big price on Lopez, and understandably so. The Yankees really wanted him and weren't able to get there. Even in O'Neill tore it up down the stretch, I'm not sure Miami would be that interested in a player getting into his earning years. As for Burleson, I'm not sure he is a player a lot of teams are asking for just yet. So if O'Neill gets hurt again, maybe it would do the Cardinals some long-term good to give Burleson a good look.

Can we pump the breaks on Dejong regaining form? He's 3 for 16 since coming back yes 2 of the 3 were homeruns and he seems to be improved from the dejong we saw early in the season but lets hold off on the parade for him huh? And Marmol instantly slotting him in the 5th spot is moronic let him hit 7 or 8 with less pressure for a while.

Jake Woodford is pitching tonight for Memphis. He is coming off of a strong starting performance. If he duplicates that effort and Dakota Hudson struggles, the Cardinals may give him another look. The exit of Johan Oviedo helps Woodford's case, as does Matthew Liberatore's inconsistency at Memphis.

Once upon a time, scouts were a bit leery of oversized hitters with long swings. In Judge's case, he was viewed as a below-average power hitter at the plate while in high school. Given his height, scouts initially saw him as a first baseman. So 1B + limited power = limited potential. Judge's power potential emerged during his time at Fresno State, but here is how Baseball America saw him then:“With a build that's rare for baseball at 6-foot-7 and 255 pounds, Judge earns physical comparisons to NBA player Blake Griffin. He was a three-sport athlete in high school and got most of his college offers for football as a tight end. But he loved baseball and headed to Fresno State--where both his parents went--even after the Athletics drafted him in the 31st round out of high school. Judge puts on jaw-dropping batting practice displays, but some scouts worry that his power won't translate to games. He hit four home runs as a sophomore and had eight so far this season as he got bigger in his stance and made adjustments. Judge profiles as a .250 hitter and is going to strike out a lot, which comes with the territory for tall power hitters with long arms. A team can live with the strikeouts if he hits 30-plus home runs a year. While his swing is more about strength and leverage than bat speed, he has light-tower power. Judge is a solid-average runner with an above-average arm and will be a solid defender in right field.”
