last season I was at a downtown conference in St. Louis with colleagues from other states. I am in my 50's and have been a Cards fan for 50 seasons. On that night Hicks started. It was clear to me that he was either hurt or wiped out. The Cards mustered a couple of hits and Hicks gave up about 8 runs. I was embarrassed and not thrilled that I took my friends to the game. This happened too many times last year. Why are they trotting out the same roster with HOPE as their strategy? They needed best solid additions! What gives? I won't take friends back until they improve the product.

Hi Gordo - Thinking outside the box on how we can try to utilize the best of Torey Krug’s skill set (playing point on the PP) while getting rid of his worst attribute (his defensive ability)...If the Blues came to him and said they wanted to convert him to a forward, do you think he’d potentially be receptive to the idea?
If not, and he refused, then don’t you think it would likely make him more open to waiving his no trade clause in a potential salary dump deal (a la Jori Lehtera)?
Seems like a win-win to me. If he agrees, then we get rid of his ghastly d-zone play and have another offensive weapon up front. If he refuses, it’ll make him mad and either play better (wanting to prove us wrong) or allow us to begin the process of us trying to move him.
More of the same however is not a recipe for team success. -

I remember you wrote something like "where are you going to find a player with that shot and size!" You were writing about Tage Thompson when he was on his first or second year. Now I know Army could have gotten ROR without giving up Tage apparently Buffalo asked for Kyrou and Thomas first. The Blues thought Tage might be good? He's generational! They call him Tage Lemeuix in Canadian national media. The Blues Chief, Army, muffed the projection. This is going to hurt for 10 years---He's not just good.....amazing and dominant is more accurate.

I think the disconnect with fans considering prospects is that the players that come up and perform are not the players that get the hype, so it feels like "prospects" are over hyped. I don't have it in front of me but look at the rookies last year who did well then look at where their prospect rankings were. Donovan wasn't high, same with nootbar and yepez. They are solid players for sure and they should probably get more love on their ascent instead of the "toolsy" guys who don't pan out. The cardinals are built on players coming through their system but what high profile prospect has produced to that level? then compare that to the unsung Matt Carpenter types who come through the system and have solid careers.
