Jeff as I suspected a lot of discussion about Oli and O’Neill. To me Marmol’s biggest flub is making TO the centerfielder. With far more running and occasions to dive for baseballs he is an IL visit waiting to happen. I hope to be proven wrong but I don’t think he will last long at that position based upon his past history. Thanks for the chance to comment.

Yeah, that move was odd. Tyler needed a far amount of work just to fix his reads in left field. He became a very good left fielder. but trying to pick up where Bader left off is a big ask.

Great column about how the Cardinals aspire to be the Braves. They'll never be there with a mediocre Mo in charge. He's the common denominator of years of playoff exits, and no playoffs at all. Jockety was in charge during the last World Series. When Barack Obama was us president!

Mozeliak was GM of the David Freese Team that won it all. So give him some credit.
The Cardinals are building up toward having a Braves-like nucleus. The key will be to lock the best young players into lock-term deals and build up the starting pitching. Once that is done, then get the guys to play like the Braves just played at Busch. They were spot on.

There are a LOT of guys in the portal right now. A LOT. But haven't seen a whole lot speculation on SLU. Today was not a good day for Mizzou, who saw two of their top targets land elsewhere.

Jeff there is not a lot to root about the Blues for the remainder of this season but it’s nice seeing them staying aggressive and trying to win rather than mailing it in. Even though Kyrou has little or no interest in playing defense it would be special to see him get to 40 goals. It’s been awhile. Thanks

Jordan Kyrou is a big-time talent but, yes, there is still work to do defensively. But give the group credit for not bailing on the season. The Blues are creating a bit more optimism about next season.

I know the Commish would always say wait till Flag Day to see where everybody's at in the standings. But, it's not like they're losing 3-2 here. They're getting smacked around. Irony will be when they call up Liberatore to save the day. Oofta. Tough spot kid. For posterity, Arozarena is hitting .364 worth a .5WAR this year already and 8.5WAR so far in his career. Got some catching up to do. Seems like a good place to stop.

Maybe this team is doomed. On the hand, Jordan Walker looks legit, Willson Contreras has added offensive depth as hoped and two pleasant bullpen surprises have been Packy Naughton with his better slider and Drew VerHagen with better everything. So I not expect a last-place finish.

Without any context or perspective (a Friday Chat prerequisite) some quick hits on the Cards after the off-season, spring training and six "big boy" games:

Put Carlson in CF and keep him there. Defense up the middle. All the time. Every time.

Put TON in LF and keep him there. Gold Glove came with him in LF, not CF.

Always talk about not having enough pitching and here we are on Easter Weekend chatting about pitching. It is past time to go big or go home. Stop with the five-man rotation. Move to a six-man rotation ASAP! And, acquire something even close to resembling a "stopper".

TON and Oli --- start acting like adults. Grow up. TON, get with the program. You're about to hit the jackpot salary wise. Don't screw it up. Oli, stop with the caffeinated products, keep internal stuff internal. If this continues to be a problem with you two "children", you're going to end up in Johnny Mo's office. How did that work out for Mike Schildt?

Finally ---- Oli stop acting like you are the smartest man that enters the clubhouse, the office, the dugout, the post-game press conferences, etc. The way you come across at times (arrogant) is very off-putting. A bite or two from the humility sandwich may be something to think about.

You covered a lot of ground there. I certainly agree with a lot of that. That series against Atlanta just had a bad, bad vibe. The Braves looked playoff ready and the Cardinals looked lost. I knew things would get a little chippy in here today.

I believe that is the sort of deal the Cardinals will ultimately look for. Glasnow has another year at $15 million+ on his contract and that certainly is within the DeWitt price range.

I think some of the angst is from frustration. All of us could look at the starting rotation;
42 year old Waino , two pitchers coming back from injury and a decent pitcher with a sub 500 record as the anchors of your staff? We ditched last year's most effective starter in the playoffs. What could go wrong?

Yeah, I always like the Lopez possibility. He would have been a good cultural fit. And I imagine there was a path to get there without giving up a very top prospect. But the Cardinals thought -- and still think -- they already had five starters they liked for this season.
