You already have a great cake with rich icing right here. I proudly write for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and am committed to working here for a long time to give readers the best Mizzou coverage available.
I'm not sure that will fix the turnovers or free throw shooting.
He said after the game he talked to the team prior to the last possession about calling timeout after crossing halfcourt. But, obviously, it didn't happen. I shared some thoughts on that game earlier. I thought Mizzou clearly overlooked Ole Miss. No energy, no hustle, until midway through the second half.
I do not believe the Phillips news had any impact on how MU played. Players have not gone out of their way to express any disappointment about Phillips being gone from the team. I'm not saying he was a problem within the locker room, but I've never gotten the impression his absence hurt chemistry. The team declined to explain its reasoning for removing him from the team, but we obviously know he's under investigation by the university because of the allegations from at least four women, and possibly more. This is a delicate situation where as a reporter there's information that I can't publish because of the nature of the investigation and the alleged victims' privacy. But I was not at all surprised he's no longer with the program.
AJ is a natural recruiter because of his personality, his people skills, his experiences, his intelligence. I thought he should have been a position coach when Odom first got the job because of his recruiting upside.
Just because those seats are empty doesn't mean the ticket-holder isn't in the building. Some of those ticket holders choose to watch the game from the club level where they can drink. It's a perk that I think backfired on Mizzou because it gives that impression of empty seats.
I don't know the other coaches personally, so it's hard to say honestly. As for former SEC coaches, Hugh Freeze admires Barry a lot. Bret Bielema did, too. The defensive guys usually stick up for each other, so I know there's mutual admiration between Odom and Mark Stoops, Muschamp and Mason. I'm not sure the others know him that well. Pinkel obviously is close to Saban and he got to know Spurrier and Les Miles really well. Gary was universally respected around the league.
OK, folks. We're out of time. Mizzou WBB plays Vandy tonight and I'll have coverage, plus Martin meets with the media tomorrow, then MU is off to Lexington for Saturday's game at Rupp. I'll have you covered.
