I don't know. It didn't come up Tuesday.
The early signing period for football is next Wed-Fri, followed by the traditional date on Feb. 5. The spring signing period for basketball runs from April 15-May 20.
Build on the foundation that's in place. Come play in an exciting, proven offensive system. Enjoy a plush $98 million team facility. Play against the best of the best in the SEC. It's not a very complicated sales pitch.
I'd be alarmed if this team can't have a winning season in 2020. Like I wrote earlier, he's not inheriting a broken program.
I can't recall one where that's happened, much less three curators. Maybe it has but not that I can recall.
I've heard mixed reviews. The only place that's really relevant is App State, because he wouldn't have set the guidelines at his other stops when he was just an assistant. Any coach who takes over a high-profile program at Mizzou has to learn how to deal with the student reporters ... because there are a lot of them. Some coaches handle that better than others. Cuonzo is smooth with everyone. It took Pinkel a while to get used to all the attention and the youthful press corps. Odom knew what to expect when he got the job because of his time at Mizzou.
A handful, yes. In the SEC alone, I'm pretty sure Dan Mullen still calls his own plays. Gus Malzahn has gone back and forth when it comes to calling plays.
This seems like a common concern. Bottom line, if he's got a good staff in place to take on all the other roles and he's secure enough in his game management skills, then it can work for the head coach to call plays. You just have to have a smooth system in place and have clearly defined roles for all the other jobs.
Maybe, but I can only report what I know to be true from the people I interview. Money was not the main concern when it came to the initial three targets. Sterk talked at length at the start of the search about Mizzou having the resources in place to hire the right coach.
OK, friends and trolls, that's all the time I have today. Thanks for the thoughtful discussion.
