I believe they will be lucky to win three games against that all-SEC schedule. Like I said earlier in the chat, all meat, no cupcakes. A realistic target for this program going forward is consistent bowl eligibility with an occasional nine-win season.
Yes, that would help from Tyler. He is a good fit-in player who can win a lot of faceoffs, but you would rather pay $3 million per year for that than $5 million. Had Armstrong known he could get O'Reilly after all . . .
This is shaping up to be a good recruiting class. He lined up realistic targets, guys with regional or family ties who wanted to connect with a high-character coach. Also, he has team this year with crazy experience and what he claims is good off-court chemistry. From the transfer market he added a proven playmaker and a promising three-point shooter to an already deep team that was playing pretty well late last season. So there is some hope for the Tigers.
Injuries! They happen in college sports, but the Tigers lost their best guys year after year. Michael Porter Jr. suffered his back issue that cost the team a much higher NCAA seed during his one season. Jontay Porter wrecked his knee the next year and cost the program a potential return NCAA trip. Mark Smith missed 13 games that season as well. Jeremiah Tilmon missed almost half of last season and Mark Smith missed seven more games.
The program moved on from Michael Porter Sr., first taking him off the road and then now renewing his contract. Marco Harris is on the road now. This summer the staff got a lot of offers out there and reeled in a good mix of recruit. If you are not buying players, you are going to have to get in early on some late bloomers. It appears the Tigers did that.
Flaherty threw 95 pitches in his last start. Hudson threw 101 pitches. Obviously Martinez is still building arm strength, but he should last longer than the 80 pitches of his last start. Kim topped 80 in his last three starts before getting sick. Ponce de Leon made it through 93 pitches two starts ago. When a guy comes out of the bullpen, like Gomber, then it's toughto throw a lot of pitches.
There will be an asterisk on this season, period.
About 40 percent of the country disagrees.
The Cardinals won got back to the NLCS last season after a playoff hiatus, so they are happy with the trade.
OK, great chat today. Be safe out there. I will see you next week.
