Are you referring to Jose Oquendo? He's quite busy as an instructor.
I wouldn't put too much stock in what you see early in the Grapefruit League. Let's wait until the final two weeks to see how the guys who will be on the team start to play.
I know he worked with Aledmys Diaz and gave him some valuable tips.
Weaver had back spasms last Wednesday.
That is a very good question. Unfortunately for the Blues, this is a baseball town and the sports fans here care more about Alex Reyes' Tommy John surgery than Doug Armstrong raising the white flag. Armstrong may enjoy the free pass, but the Blues suffer because I'm sure they would rather captivate the entire local sports market the way the Cardinals do. You are absolutely correct that Cardinals fans would lose their minds if the Cardinals were sellers at the trade deadline when they were in a position to reach the playoffs.
I don't know if I'll make any of those trips. My bosses make the schedules. I would love to make those trips, but there are budgets and a fellow columnist to consider as well.
Every organization that I've covered has taken great pride in bringing back their former legends. The only difference with the Cardinals is that they have a lot of greats. They can sprinkle some of the greatest names in baseball every week if they wanted. Ozzie Smith one week, Bob Gibson the next and so on.
I hadn't thought about that. Let's go with Carlos Martinez is the Cy Young candidate and Bryce Harper for the NL MVP, but I bet you Kris Bryant will repeat.
I'd love to see Gonzaga win it all.
That is definitely a good start and a great ratio. He has really looked good so far this spring.
Spring training is long because of the pitchers. A month would be more than enough to get the hitters ready for spring, but you need to build up innings as a pitcher. Blame it on the pitchers.
We need to see how his shoulder holds up. He has a lot to prove. Can he hit lefthanders? Can he make the simple play as well as the highlight reel ones?
I have not seen any WBC games so far this year, but I have to say that the story of the WBC so far as been Israel's stunning upset over Korea.
The biggest difference is the traffic. Most Arizona spring training sites are a short drive away from each other. That is not the case in Florida, where it did get a little better for the Cardinals this year with the Nationals and Astros moving to West Palm Beach.
I would be shocked if Marshall would leave Wichita State for a school like Mizzou. He's in a much better place, gets paid well and has a ton of talent coming back, as I noted in my column in Monday's paper. With that said, Mizzou should make a run at him again if they're serious about trying to win. It's a shame that an SEC school cannot put together a package impressive enough to lure a guy away from Wichita State.
If you consider that these kids in the minors don't get paid a true living wage, I don't know how anybody could suggest that they remain under a team's control longer than the current CBA allows before they must be put on the 40-man roster.
There are other ways, I guess, but nothing beats facing other major leaguers.
Gyorko seems to have a very engaging personality.
He's a respected part of the bullpen. I don't have any specific examples.
