It was definitely a smart move to postpone the game early in the day. The skies are about to burst open today.
I don't think that would make much sense. Busch is a good stadium for baseball and soccer, but I wouldn't play a major SEC or Big 10 game in such a small stadium.
I will share what I know when it's appropriate. I will tell you that I know some MLS investors who keep the pulse for me.
They will be a wild-card contender. They'll need an infusion of talent at the trade deadline, though, if they want to make a serious run.
That is just the society that we live in. Matheny has a high profile job, as does Mozeliak. They know they are the faces of the team because they are the leaders. It's part of the job.
They'll easily win the AL West and reach the World Series. I was talking to Roy Oswalt over the phone on Sunday, and he was raving about Lance McCullers and Dallas Keuchel. He was especially impressed with McCullers changeup.
I wouldn't call it one of the weakest lineups in baseball, but they clearly need to hit better.
I wouldn't be surprised if at least two of those three are gone by the trade deadline.
I had a baseball radio show in Houston for a while. I love radio, but I promised myself that I would focus my first year entirely on becoming a columnist. I need to become a better columnist and more knowledgeable about the St. Louis sports scene before I try to take on more media responsibilities in St. Louis.
The St. Louis soccer market is too good for these guys to walk away. I bet some part of that ownership group will step up and take advantage of a great opportunity here.
The Cardinals definitely have the ability to go out and make trades, but I think it might be wise with this group to just play out the season and see if they can get into the playoffs with the wild card.
Just be patient. MLS won't announce the expansion teams until this fall.
I agree that these players aren't going to make marked defensive improvement as far as range is concerned, but they definitely need to be held accountable for the poor baseball instincts and decisions.
You are correct. They should have done more in the offseason if they wanted to genuinely compete for the NL Central title, but it's too late now to want to fix this train. Patience will be required now and they deserve to be commended for sticking to their plans now.
Please trust me that they are actively trying to fix this. These are the normal ebbs and flows of a baseball franchise that wins consistently and doesn't pick high in the draft. The Cardinals took no shortcuts while others were tanking to win. This is the price you pay. This will be a rather lean year in terms of merely going for the wild-card, but I assure you that reinforcements are on the way. I bet you they will be serious World Series contenders by 2019 and NL Central contenders again in 2018.
I haven't followed this as closely as others, but I'm pretty certain that the team that makes the biggest offer will land him. That's usually the way it works.
I don't think those two acts compare at all.
