They had been monitoring that injury all year. I asked Mozeliak about it after noticing that Fowler would walk to the trainers room with only one shoe on after he dressed into street clothes after games. It was just an injury that didn't heal as expected.
I don't think Matheny is on the hot seat quite yet. He has won consistently and just got an extension last November. His seat won't be hot unless they miss the playoffs this year and they get off to a horrible start next season.
The Cardinals have a surplus of second basemen. There's no telling how long Dexter Fowler will be out, so I wouldn't say there's a surplus of quality outfielders at the big league level. Piscotty is having a rough year, and Grichuk has yet to establish himself. Where would this team be without Tommy Pham? At this point, Pham is the only outfielder who can be proud of his season.
I would say that Doug Armstrong has had a great offseason. You should be happy that he was able to flip Lehtera.
I think Donaldson would add significant heft to a lineup that doesn't have one guy that strikes fear in opposing pitchers. Ozuna and Yelich would help, but you have to consider that Piscotty and Fowler are going to be here for a while and Pham is having a strong season.
I wouldn't rule out anything with the Cubs, who have a very strong farm system.
Relax, my friend. I spent three years in the small New York market covering the Mets. I hear that's a major beat in a major market.
I actually checked on that with a person I trust. That person doubts that the Red Sox would be major players for Donaldson in part because of the question about trading within the division. Moreover, the Red Sox have some third base prospects coming up in their system.
I haven't asked Wainwright or the Cardinals about that option. If the Cardinals unload Rosenthal and Oh, they would be preparing for 2018. If that's the case, you could just let Wainwright finish the season in the rotation to determine what you have in the rotation moving forward.
Check out our previous questions about Donaldson, Ozuna and Yelich.
If they acquire Donaldson, it would be with an eye on this year and next. Donaldson can help you now. You're not going to get a quality shortstop for the second base depth the Cardinals have.
I really like what Doug Armstrong has done this offseason.
I don't know what that's about, but I'm sure they want to keep those guys healthy. That offense doesn't need those guys stealing bases.
Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen.
I assume the Phillies might get a better deal from another team for Neshek.
I don't understand what is going on. I don't know how much of that is on the hitting coach and how much of that is on the players. Something is clearly wrong, though.
I honestly don't know much about Thomas at this time.
You make some very valid points.
I don't know. Sincerely, though, I don't understand why some fans get so invested in the attendance figure. Long ago I accepted that I cannot verify that figure, so I take it with a grain of salt.
He's a control pitcher. We will find out more about him soon.
The Cubs have lots of talent in their farm system. That trade could propel the Cubs back into contention.
