I'm not surprised. The Cardinals have a plan, and they're not going to pick up a contract they don't want.
I would agree with Rick Hummel on that prediction, but I don't know who will be the star offensive player. the Cardinals do want to fortify the offense.
You don't have to look very far actually. Check out what has happened with the Mets this season.
I just didn't think he was a player worthy of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. His major talent was power, and that power was enhanced by PEDs. He wasn't very good defensively. He didn't run particularly well. He hit the ball a long way and made a little history, but he wouldn't have made that history without PEDs.
I'm sure the Cardinals would definitely listen to the Marlins if they were willing to eat a portion of Stanton's contract.
This was supposed to be the Cubs' year anyway in the NL Central. I expect the Cardinals to contend with a quality team again next year.
They called up LHP Ryan Sherriff today.
That's a good question. I'll say Boston.
First of all, it's insulting to say that. How many World Series rings does John Mozeliak need for those people to think that he's a "baseball man?" He's a baseball man. This team wasn't good enough to throw good money after bad at the deadline. I hate repeating that, but it's true.
Yes, Verlander has reportedly cleared waivers.
That's a good question. I assume they will try to go after Machado. I don't expect them to go after Harper.
The pitching staff needs at least one starter to come up from Class AAA Memphis and help the team. They appear to be running on fumes.
The front office didn't quite on them. If the front office didn't truly believe, they would have unloaded Lance Lynn at the non-waiver trade deadline. They didn't take away from the team. They merely let this roster show what it could do.
I would assume it would be Mayers, but I wouldn't rule out Gilmartin.
Everybody is held accountable. It's also important for fans to be realistic and take their red-colored glasses off. Fans must understand that this game is cyclical. If you win, you pick lower in the draft while the losing teams pick higher. If your team doesn't tank, it's going to take longer to recover from picking late in the draft. The Cardinals didn't get here through neglect. They got into this position in part because of the way baseball helps promote parity.
They were in the World Series again in 2011, though, right?
That is a good question. It would probably be wise to not tender Rosenthal a contract.
I wouldn't say that. Keep in mind that the Cardinals will have Carlos Martinez, Alex Reyes, Luke Weaver, Jack Flaherty, Dakota Hudson and Sandy Alcantara ready to go with Leake, Wainwright, Wacha.
I don't think anything will happen if you're asking me about the potential of having DeWitt fire front office execs or the manager, but the pressure will be quite high for the Cardinals to get it together next season.
