Tommy Pham in my opinion is the Cardinals' 2017 MVP. He and Yadier Molina are my top two candidates for team MVP.
Yadier Molina has been one of the Cardinals' best players this season and an invaluable leader in the clubhouse.
Lynn will ultimately go to the team that gives him the best deal. Don't rule out the Cardinals yet. He won't turn them down if they offer the most or perhaps even a similar day.
The Marlins have $295 million reasons to trade Stanton. They don't want that contract. They cannot afford that heavily backloaded contract. The Cardinals are considered favorites in some parts, according to the highly respected Buster Olney of ESPN. Bob Nightengale, who is also highly respected, also has linked the Cardinals to Stanton this week.
The Cardinals are saving $38 million by unloading that contract. They cut their losses.
Arrieta is turning his season around. The Cardinals might have to beat out the Cubs for Arrieta. Arrieta isn't exactly a workhorse, however.
Yeah, it might be a stretch to get somebody to take Cecil at this point.
That's an interesting question. I have no idea. Hosmer plays first, and I don't think the Cardinals want to stick with Carpenter at third. So I would assume Moustakas, Hosmer and Martinez in that order. I'm just guessing, though.
Cecil is still going to stick around.
That's a good question. I think Carpenter should stay at first base unless the Cardinals can somehow get a major slugger for first base.
Flaherty's workload is a consideration, but I expect he will get the start Friday for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals aren't done, but the Blues will get started pretty soon.
He's a two-time All-Star. He's still 25, so he has plenty of time and room for growth. He needs to clean up his defense to take another step forward, but he's the ace on this staff. He's probably a No. 2 on most other contenders, though.
That's a good question. I assume Lynn, Oh, Duke and one or two of the outfielders will be gone this offseason.
The Mike Leake trade was a case of addition by subtraction. You should commend Mozeliak for actually getting the Mariners to absorb $38 million of the remaining $55 million on his contract.
I'm glad that they canceled the Texans-Cowboys preseason game. They should have never even had the Texans head to Frisco, Texas, when the players wanted to be close to their families. When you are coping with a catastrophe like this, the last thing you want to do is leave your family.
He needs to clean up his defense. He's already an All-Star with plenty of upside, but he can and should get better once he fields his position better. He also needs to be more in control in the first inning.
I think they should strip the Texas from the Rangers' uniform. They had the chance to do the right thing and blew it. That team lost its soul when they let Nolan Ryan go as team president. I lost all respect for Jon Daniels and the Rangers' ownership after the way they acted on this issue.
If I were the GM, I would see if the Marlins would take Jack Flaherty, Harrison Bader and another top outfield prospect for Giancarlo Stanton. I would see if they'd pick up $30 million on Stanton's deal and then make the trade.
They both appear to have a high ceiling, but it's too early to tell on that front.
