The Mariners aren't going to win the World Series.
I agree. I cannot believe people are complaining that the Cardinals got rid of Leake.
The Cubs have done more to keep the Cardinals in the race than the Cardinals have, it seems at times. The Cubs just refuse to pull away.
Lynn is going to command a long-term deal close to $100 million this winter. It will take more than Leake's money to lure him back.
You're missing the point why the Marlins would consider it necessary to get out of Stanton's contract. It has nothing to do with the standings right now. I've explained it quite a bit in this chat.
It would take a pair of top prospects just to start the conversation.
That was definitely a typo. The Cardinals are better off without Mike Leake. They've cleaned up the base running and fielding issues quite a bit. They hurt their own cause too often early in the year.
I assume Lynn will sign with the team that gives him the best deal for him and his family. He knows this is a business. I don't think he would have taken a huge discount just to sign during the season.
They essentially dumped Garcia and Leake. Tyler O'Neill, the slugging outfielder the Cardinals got for Gonzales, has intriguing power. He is still only 22. So it will be interesting to see how he develops.
The Cardinals are definitely interested. They won't take his full contract, but they would definitely like to acquire him.
That's going to be a major question. They might be able to package him in a deal for a top starter or position player.
Matheny definitely knows he has two Martinez, but I get the sense that he doesn't trust Jose Martinez's defense.
Lynn has been solid this year. You cannot deny his contributions, but he might be out of the Cardinals' price range this winter. I assume the Cardinals will let him walk.
The Cardinals would pay for his surgery. I assume his rehab would be covered as well, but they don't have to pay him beyond his contract.
Yes, many have said that the Marlins' new ownership group needs to make a statement to their fans that they're committed to winning. It would be hard to say you're committed to winning if you get rid of your best player.
We've mentioned Stanton's no-trade clause often. He would need to agree to a deal, which is why some consider the Giants a better fit than the Cardinals for Stanton.
I would assume they would make Lynn a qualifying offer.
I bet Jack Flaherty will be called up to take Mike Leake's spot in the rotation and on the 25-man roster.
I'd wait another year and then ask Manny Machado to write his ticket to St. Louis.
