There is no guarantee that Stanton would waive his no-trade clause to go to St. Louis. That is the biggest reason some think the Giants are the most likely team to get Stanton, who is from the West Coast.
At this point, he's the Cardinals' closer. If he finishes the season as the closer and does well in that role, you can bet that he'll be courted as a closer or at least billed as one by his agents.
The Cardinals are still subject to their spending limits of $300,000 if they go after Otani this winter, so you can probably rule him out. The Dodgers, Cubs and Astros also are subject to the $300,000 maximum, after blowing past their international signing pool last year.
I plan on attending many Blues training camp practices. I was actually speaking with their top PR man, Mike Caruso, today to set up some things. I hope to be at as many practices as possible.
Mike Yeo has been adamant that the Blues will face stiff challenges in the Central Division this year. There's no doubt that the division hasn't gotten better.
Leake wasn't cutting it here. He has gotten off to a strong start with the Mariners after winning his first two starts there. The Cardinals haven't missed him, so it was a win-win for both teams.
At this point, Tyler Lyons has to be considered the Cardinals' playoff closer if they make it.
Let's see how he returns. If he's not going to return until he's 100 percent healthy, he might not be ready to return in time for the Cubs series. If he's going to rush back while feeling some discomfort, it might be wise to push him to left field and use Pham or Bader in center fielder. With so much at stake heading down to the final three weeks, you cannot worry about anybody's feelings. You have to play the players where they can best help you win.
The Cardinals will consider every trade possibility. There are no untouchables, John Mozeliak has said. Carpenter has played through pain all year. I wonder how he'll do next year if his shoulder issue doesn't affect him too much.
This is an interesting question. I'm sure the Cardinals will consider trading him. It's amazing that he was the Cardinals' heart and hustle award winner this year because I bet you he wouldn't win that poll if you asked his teammates, coaches and manager to vote. If I needed to unload Gyorko to get a needed piece, I would trade him.
As I stated before, I stand by my friend. You all can decide on your own whether you agree with what she said or not.
I agree that J.D. Martinez is a special bat. Considering what he will cost via free agency, I would rather stick with Tommy Pham. Did you know that Tommy Pham's WAR (4.9) is higher that J.D. Martinez's (3.4 WAR) this year?
Bill DeWitt Jr. also said he would never say never to anything. Also, you have to remember that there's a strong chance that the Marlins would eat part of that contract. If that's the case, there's a chance for the Cardinals. Also, don't rule anything out unless you hear Stanton say he won't go anywhere. What he says now may not be how he feels this offseason after he sees the start of a tear down.
Thanks for participating in this week's live chat. See you next week. I have to go get ready to drive to Busch Stadium now.
