I will not comment on Cecil. You have no idea what personal matter he is handling, so you shouldn't pass judgment.
All those players you mentioned definitely have a chance to earn an All-Star bid. I would expect the Cardinals to have multiple All-Stars this season.
Let's just disagree to disagree.
I'm going to go with the over. I'm going to predict 36 or more home runs this year for Ozuna if he's healthy.
In a different era Patrick Wisdom might have earned a call up to the majors last year, but his 149 strikeouts in the minors lead you to believe that he has a pretty big hole in his swing. He needs to cut down on his strikeouts. There's a reason no other team picked him up when he was exposed in the Rule 5 draft this year.
The Cardinals' front office has to keep an eye on this year and another on the franchise's long-term health. They cannot and should not dismantle the farm system at this time because then they won't have the pieces to either call up to help or use to acquire another needed piece later this summer via trade.
Bud Norris sent me a text. He wanted to have a discussion. We had a good off-the-record discussion about the past in Houston. Then when I was informed by colleagues that we hadn't actually interviewed him about his signing, I gave him another call.
I have never heard a GM say that.
I don't know what to think. I will say that on Monday I did ask John Mozeliak if would acquire Chris Archer. He reminded me that he never discusses his trade plans publicly. I knew he didn't, but I had to ask.
Carpenter isn't whining. Fans who don't like that Matheny will bat him third are whining. It's important to make that clear.
First of all, it remains to be seen what he has left in the tank.
You're the first person to bring Leake up in this chat. I don't know if it's fair to call him a disaster, as you ask, but I would say that he didn't live up to his contract. If given the chance to do it over again with the info now at their disposal I bet the Cardinals wouldn't sign him.
No need to fret, my friend.
I haven't asked, but I can almost promise you they didn't. Cardinal Nation would revolt if they brought Palmeiro to camp.
You are right. I'm not sold on Schwarber as an NL guy. He might be an AL DH. The Cubs appear to have a better starting rotation than the Cardinals.
Ha. You should see the questions I don't publish.
Gregerson, Tuivailala, Tyler Lyons, Norris, Cecil, Leone, Matt Bowman and John Gant. John Brebbia and Ryan Sherriff will try to squeeze in there as well.
If you argue that the roster is too close to being a true threat how can you claim that this is a case of smoke and mirrors? The Cardinals are legit playoff contenders heading into camp. They'll be fine and they'll make the needed additions to fortify later. I genuinely believe that.
I'm too young to have stories about Youngblood.
Last year many of us assumed the Cubs would run away with the NL Central, and we were wrong. That's why the play the games.
I might be willing to make that trade.
It's important to remember that there's too much out of the pitchers' control to put too much value on the "wins" stat for pitchers.
Thank you so much for participating in this week's live chat. See you next week.
