Trust me, Mike Matheny and Mike Maddux want to use every reliever in the right spot. That's actually part of the job requirement.
I would have used a different word, but I agree with you.
The calendar hasn't even hit April 19. Fowler had a good season last year, and he'll be fine this season.
I must admit that I have no idea. You might want ask this question to Rick Hummel.
Nope. Actually at the start of the season I predicted that the Cardinals would win the NL Central. So the new normal is the old normal for Cubs fans. At least that's what I predict.
Yes, there is no limit on how long O'Neill needs to be up. Players who are optioned down must remain in the minors for 10 days before they can be recalled.
As you can probably tell, nobody commits more resources to travel and cover St. Louis sports than the Post-Dispatch. I dare you to find any print or online outlet that invests more money to travel to cover every Blues and Cardinals game, not to mention all of spring training with at least a trio of journalists in Jupiter, Fla. I hope you'll find that our product is worth the price of a subscription.
I must admit that I write the headlines for my blogs. The copy editors write the headlines for the columns. I will try to avoid using "must" in the headlines. I must confess that I wrote the headline on the Holland blog, which included a "must." Sorry.
I agree on your comment about needing someone who can stop the puck from going into the net. They have an elite goal scorer in Tarasenko, but I wonder if he would be more productive with a better cast around him.
Pham's groin tightened on him last night. I don't know what to think about DeJong. He needs to figure out a way not to cut down on his strikeouts. He's striking out way too much.
There's just many little things. For example, there are times when he has gone to the mound and delivered a message to Martinez in Spanish because he didn't want some of the non-English speakers to know what he was talking about.
I don't know how you can determine that, but I would say it's a bit early to give up on Wong this season.
I think you're looking at this through revisionist history. On opening day very few fans could have predicted Bud Norris' contributions. There were many questions about Dominic Leone, who began the season as the favorite to close before he stumbled. And I know many fans were worried about the Cardinals' decision to call up Hicks so early. Holland will be fine once he settles in. And once he settles in, the Cardinals will have an even stronger bullpen. Remember, you can never have enough good pitching.
I'd have to take a deep look into it before rating it, but it was definitely crucial last night.
I don't know that the Blues will make so many additions. They don't think they're that far off after missing the playoffs by one point.
If they're all pitching well, I don't see them moving anybody.
Given the choice, I would stick with Bowman.
I was actually wondering the same thing. I need to double check to see if he has minor league options, though.
You can never have enough pitching.
