Rosters, and injured lists, will be handled differently by different clubs, but the 40-man roster is key. The minor league camp can have as many as 34 players when the roster limit in the majors is at 26. The total pools are 60 for every team, excluding those out for the season with injury.
Joey Votto, Anthony Rizzo, Christian Yelich among division foes. Elsewhere, Freddie Freeman, Jose Martinez (now with Tampa Bay).
Most of the ball parks in the NL Central are very pleasant to visit, notably Pittsburgh where you can stay right across the street. Milwaukee has plenty of room in the press box and, so, does Cincinnati. The new Mets park, Citi Field, is good, too and so is Cleveland for that purpose.
Joe didn't have the top-of-the-line pitching here to win a division although his teams generally finished in the first division. He got a lot smarter when he had Roger Clemens, Mike Mussina, "El Duque" Hernandez and Mariano Rivera, among others, pitching for him in New York,.
Off the top of my head, the starting nine would be Bob Gibson, pitcher; Ted Simmons, catcher; Albert Pujols, first base; Tom Herr, second base; Ozzie Smith, shortstop; Scott Rolen, third base; Lou Brock, left field; Jim Edmonds, center field; Willie McGee, right field. I get to have two center fielders because McGee played several outfield positions, especially right field, when he was here the second time.
Thank you for your kind words. The free-agent market will be heavily glutted with players this off-season as many options for 2021 won't be picked up by teams. The Mookie Betts, George Springer and J.T. Realmuto types will get their money but the second and third tier of free agents will suffer. No doubt charges of collusion will surface. As of now, if there is a player option on the table for a player, he had better take it.
I wasn't referring so much to the slap single as I was on-base percentage. And pitchers are throwing harder because we have different measurements. You don't think Bob Gibson couldn't throw in the 90s? And what would Nolan Ryan be measured at today? 110? Yes, there probably are more hard throwers now, which I didn't deny. Let me ask you this? Which style of game do you enjoy more? The high octane, swing-for-the-fences, high-strikeout type, feast-or-famine game? Or a fundamentally more sound game of moving runners by constantly putting the ball in play, granting that may be one run at a time?
And thank you. The "taxi squad" is three players for every road game, with one designated as a catcher and the other two probably pitchers, but not necessarily. Those players will stay with the club on the road but, I think they would be back at Springfield working out when the team is home.
Tampa Bay all the way. The Rays were good last year and they should be better this year.
Nothing in that it apparently involved some kitchen ware.
Both. Alternate dugouts will installed in the box-seat areas along both foul lines and beyond the regular dugouts and those generally will house starting pitchers who aren't working that day and reserve players. The starters and coaching staff will be in the regular dugout, appropriately spaced.
San Diego, New York, Kansas City.
I believe the trade deadline is Aug. 31.
I don't vote for the known or suspected steroids users but if they get in, I won't rail at the fact. I believe Bonds and Clemens will make it in their final year of eligibility in a couple of years.
That would be a classic. Only under those circumstances, would I sanction cardboard cutouts.
I would have to have co-closers in Sutter and Lee Smith, both Hall of Famers.
We would have seen most of them on opening day this year if there would have been a ceremony.
Certainly not the AstroTurf. There was nothing particular about it other than that it was always spotless and it was home to three generations of World Series teams.
Wong's option is a club option at $12.5 million with a $1 million buyout.
Hard to go wrong with the Hall of Famers: Buck, Caray, Costas, Scully, Uecker.
